HELP NEEDED: Accurate miniatures TBM Avenger instructions

Hi all,

For the Anti Submarine Warfare GB i am currently building Italeri’s 1/48 TBF/TBM Avenger, which actually is a reboxed Accurate Miniatures version.

The instructions by italeri however are a nightmare, leaving you with alot of stuff to figure out on your own.

My question is wether the Italeri instructions are the same as Accurate miniature’s instructions and if no, could someone PLEASE make a high res pic of the parts concerning assembling the rear gunner station and ball turret assembly? I would be so greatful…

Thanks in advance to owners of the AM kit in their stash…[;)]

Richard

I have no idea how their instructions compare, but AM’s instructions are more of a written booklet then a lot of diagrams, and it is by carefully following their written directions I was able to assemble mine.

I will check tonight when I get home. I have the kit, but I can’t remember if it’s the AM boxing or the Italeri rebox. If it’s the AM boxing, I’ll gladly scan the instructions and email them to you. I’ll PM you with the results.

Regards,

Brad

Also go to the AM web site & under Support you’ll find a tip on installing the gun turret, which is one of the tricky part of assembly.

Regards, Rick

Go to AM website and download the instructions. Here’s a link:

Its for the TBM-3, for the -1C go here

Thank you all so much and so fast[;)]

From the look of it, italeri has just copied all the drawings for their own instructions but the extensive texts might be useful to me. I am really grateful for this community to be so helpful every single time. I salute you all.

Thanks again, appreciate it[;)]

Richard

Good thing for the other responses, my kit is also the Italeri boxing, D’OH!

I’m going to check out the AM copy, too, and compare them.

Hi Richard,

First time posting on this site.

I am currently building the same kit as you, the Italeri reboxing of the AM TBM/TBF1 Avenger, a brilliantly engineered kit, and I am having trouble with fitting the ball turret. The Italeri instructions (if that is what they call them) call for the construction of the turret at number 8 in the list of proceedings, of course by now the fuselage halves are well and truely joined together and it seems the turret should have been fitted before joining the fuselage. Can you or any body else reading this post tell me if this is so, if it is I have just blown AU$55.00.[:@]

Cheers Guys

the Accurate Miniatures website no longer exists, and the links previously provided are dead. I may have a pdf copy of what you need. PM me your email and mailing address and I’ll find them in the meantime.

Doug,

I am afraid that the website did go down, so nomore dedicated page about this fitting of the turret. It is the hardest thing about the entire kit but i assure you it WILL fit.

The italeri instructions are in fact a copy of the AM ones but italeri neglected to also copy the text that goes with it. I agree that the instructions at times were a bit vague as i recall it[:)]

Anyways… the turret…

I got mine in by slightly tilting it and carefully insert it by twisting and tilting untill it works itself inside. Takes a bit of careful twiddly work and a colorful expression or two but you will get there[;)] You did not misread the instructions; it is supposed to go in afterwards.

Richard

Follow Richard’s suggestions. As a matter of fact, the AM website use to have a whole page devoted to this very issue, as many people followed the directions and thought ‘how on earth am I suppose to get the turret in now?’ The webpage recommended patience, and via a series of photos on how its done.

Wow, yet another great thing about this site (and the net as a whole). I think I have both the AM & Italeri TBM kits in the stash and would have probably had a TBM in flight “wall collision” following extreme frustration if not having read this.[:)]

hi …just found your post…I know its a few months ago but did you sort with problem.?.. I have a spare set of instructions for the AM kit if you need them which if the toolings the same as the AM kits thats all i suspect you would need…

Cheers

Mol,

Welcome to the forums![y]

Thank you for your reply. The Italeri Avenger has since then been completed to my satisfaction:

And the reason for this thread was installed succesfully as well[:D]:

Great great kit. Certainly in my top three ever and i will certainly build it again in the future! Highly recommended.

Richard

Top job on that kermit[Y], I’ve been watching “Battleground 360” on Netflix and have a greater appreciation for the TBM plane, very cool build.
