Help me understand this Pre-Shading thing...

If I understand it the panel lines are done in a darker color then the panels are done in a lighter? [%-)]

I have a Tamiya 1/72 P51 I want to do in an OD livery and this would be a nice challenge for me…

I figure black would be the only choice for preshading then. Would there be anyother choices?
