Hello friends.
Me and my father got into a little scrim regarding the Half-Truck in the movie Saving Private Ryan.
The part where the US Soldiers are in the field with the tall grass, suddenly they hear the half track approaching. They finally took out the Half Track with a Panzerfaust.
I say the Half Track is the Sd. Kfz. 251
Thanks
You are correct. It is a 251. As proof I offer this site

Thanks JWest21.
I though it was.
Jason, Thats a cool site!! Is that 251 a D? I’ll have to throw the disc in and take a look. Could be interesting to try and build one close. Pete
Glad I could step into the middle of a family disagreement!. Pete- now you are making me get out the DVD
heres one for ya all from that movie. the halftrack is from the 2nd ss but the tanks are from the 1st ss.
jeez i have to much time on my hands now a days.
Read through the link above. There is all sorts of stuff like that in there. very interesting if you liked the movie
yep, its a 251/1 Ausf D.
I’ll have to take a look and see if it is a real one or a czetchs (cant spell it[D)]) conversion. I know the marder II and III are real.
hey jason, My friends really liked the cardboard on the tiger. Got anymore?[:p]
Oh blitz, Welcome to the Forum![:D]
It actually belongs to the 2nd Battle Group reenacting group in Britain.
Heres their pic of it off their site:
and heres their site:

They were the reenactors in Saving Private Ryan and the 20mm flak that was used was also theirs
The halftrack is really a Czech 1947 Tatra
Yep, that 251 is a czech conversion.
thats a a very cool site. The marder must be theres too, I saw its in one of there movies.
If I recall, wasn’t the 251 KO’d by an American Bazooka? Wasn’t Pvt Ryan the shooter, too?
yep
That was your 2000th post reb!
I wonder how you convert those vehicles
Anyone know if there’s a conversion kit for the Czech track?
I assume since they made the rest of it look like a real 251, they somehow got the track to look like it too, but I really dont know.
ya go figure, It took me 3 post to get from 1999 to 2000![:0][?][%-)]
I have posted I think 2 times since hitting 2000 and I am still here[%-)] I think My post value decresed LOl[:D][:p]
N e ways, I think the Czech vehicels were German ones that were just swithced around in some places. It might have just been the plans though, not the actual vehicles. I dont think there is a conversion for them either. [:(] Oh well.
hey look I hit 2001!
i assume that the road wheels and suspension were the same. On reenacting vehicles, I have not seen one tank or tracked vehicle that has the correct tracks. THey might just be too hard to find or are too old etc. But then, IO am looking at there PzIII and they have the correct tracks?! Huh, Im confused[%-)]
I’m only guessing, but I would think that some law would be in place to allow only tracks that won’t tear up public roads when operating these types of vehicles.
BTW, I’m sure someones already beaten me to it, but that scene could make the basis for a pretty cool dio.
It would make a nice dio, but you’re probably right that someones already done it. But that doesnt mean another person can
Hi guys…its not a conversion but built that way…differing engine gearbox track anddrice sprocket…I belive these guys have 'backdated the out side with tools etc and the inside with fittings…
