I’m almost complete with Airfix 1/72 Scale M3 Lee/Grant and I am missing piece #43. The funny thing is there is an identical piece #48 required for the Grant variant and that on is also missing [V] if anyone has either piece #43 or #48, I will gladly pay for it. It is a nice little model and I would really hate to leave it incomplete. As always thanks in advance!
I know it doesn’t help much, but maybe its time to try that scratch built detail project?
Mike
Mike does bring up a good point … what piece is it? And could it be built from the parts box?
I’ve got the kit and have both pieces. I’m heading out of town today and won’t be back until late on the 30th. If you send me a message then, I can pop it in the mail.
Also have you tried using their parts replacement service? I think most Airfix kits come with a little coupon to fill in vital information and they’ll send the missing piece free of charge. I’ve done it before and they respond rather rapidly. They have a method on the internet. Try going to www.airfix.com and click on services.
I have tried AirFix and so far I have recieved no response, and their website list the kit as OOP. The piece is the stabilzer (?) that holds the 37MM Cannon on the upper turret. Unfortunately, this is only my second 1/72 Kit and my parts box is not very “deep.” I have never tried to scrath build any pieces before, and I am not sure I am at that level yet. I guess there is always a first for everything[:)]
Major Rob and his generous offer has got your back covered Richard. But that gives you to the 30th to try your hand at some scratchbuilding. Give it a try, you might surprise yourself.
No time like the present Richard. What you can’t do with plastic stock you can do with any other material. Copper, brass, aluminum all make for reasonable scratch building materials. Just break it down into its components. Every piece is a series of connected shapes. Look at what shapes you’ll need to do the job. Then construct the complex structure from the simpler ones. (Remember, somebody, probobly DJ, had to scratchbuild that kit first for the production master.) Jump in the pond, Rob has your life preserver if you need it. But nothing ventured nothing gained and the experience will be invaluable down the road. Just take your time and think it through. You may have to build it a couple of tiimes to get it just right. But the effort will well be worth it for the outcome. Today a gun stabilizer, tomorrow those nasty spaces under the sponsons, then hatch covers, fenders, cutting things apart and remaking new ones, etc.
Later when you get real good at it, there is this model by Tamiya…
Mike
It’s the mantlet for the 37mm turret. They include one for the Lee and Grant turret. I’ll have an extra one (Grant mantlet).
As always you guys come through! I will make my best attempt at a (hopefully) minor scratch build, and see what happens. And Thank you Major for your very kind offer, I may still take you up on your offer. You guys continue to amaze me with your generosity. Well here goes nothing…![:D]
UPDATE: Airfix is sending me the piece, Thanks for all your help everyone. I still plan to “attempt” the scrtch build.
yay, hattals! glad to hear that both major rob and airfix came thru for u, and congrats on being willing to try the scratchbuild anyway (nothing to lose on that one, and plenty of experience to gain!.) after seeing a scratchbuilt MBT-70 on the ON THE WAY website, i’m almost ready to try my luck at the S-Tank. i’m sure i can count on the good folks around here to help answer whatever questions i need answered…[:)]
best of luck with ur project!
