Help...Ideas...Suggestions...Tips

Ok guys…I have decided to build my first Dio. I poured part of the base lastnight. Im going to have a woodlands battle scene WWII. I wanted a small creek/stream running through it. What would you use to simulate the water? I already have a ziploc bag of cat litter set aside for the gravel bottom. Would you recommend anything else to use instead?
Are there any books I should look at or buy? Brochures? Online articles, etc…
Should I have used something other than plaster to create/simulate the land structure.
Thanks in advance for any ideas, help!

hey chris, Ive got a good book here , well, the PERFECT book for modeling terrain. It covers everything you need to know about terrain for your dios. Its published by Osprey and is of course called “Terrain Modeling”. It shows you in detail how to model exactly what your planning too. What to use , where you may get it and so on. Great color pictures too. I bought mine at HobbyTown for $29.95, but you can probably order it through Squadron or Great Models Webstore too. But, just to quickly answer your question. I use Woodland scenics water beads. As for the kitty litter for the water bed, just mix it with some Celluclay, but very little. Or use small rocks and pebbles from your yard.

Thanks for the tip when I head over to Hobby Town in Mobile this weekend for some Nitro RC racing I’ll dig around and see if they have it. Again thanks.

well… I havnt tried water yet but I can give you a tip… when your doing it if you dont want it to look posed, do what I did and sorta place the models as you go… however that doesnt mean dont have any idea what it is going to look like, still have a fuzzy picture of what the figures and vehicles will look like on the base in your mind and build off that. dont be afraid to play around with the model arrangement. who knows, a tank might look better on one side of the base rather than the other. if this isnt the kind of help you were looking for, just ask and I’ll help as best I can. Talk later

Nice picture of VF-41 Tomcat (Jolly Rogers) must be a promo shot during the Final Countdown Movie.
