I hacked up about five kits of 1/72nd scale figures to get the ones I wanted. Now here I go detailing these tiny little figures. Most of em are soft plastic making removing flash a nightmare. I’ve got the base paint on but they look like little toys. I’ve kind of got the idea behind shading, but they look so rough up close. However, I am determined, so does anybody have any helpful tips on how to bring out some detail and get rid of that blasted flash on these tiny little buggers?
An Exacto knife & a steady hand?lol
I paint a lot (re-iterate…a LOT) of 25 MM plastic figs for Warhammer. A few very fine grade files and an assortment of super sharp exacto knife blades will work wonders.
At this scale exagerating shadows creases is a good technique to making them stand out… Base coat them Black and try drybrushing the colour on top this will show up the details then its a matter of picking them out with a fine tipped brush. As for the eyes well you need a steady hand … nahh just kiddin a thin wash of brown should be enough over the skin tones. Another good technique is using washes or inks to pick out the detail, then going over the base coat with highlights.
Good luck.

Thanks guys. I’ve just found out that a fine point pen works great for small details and the actions on small guns. Had the pen in hand and just started colouring. Works pretty good. Sorry Deusmex no pics yet. But your advice helped. That link was really a great one too. Thanks Philip.
