Hello, I´m New in the forum I need some info about WWII German Flak Trucks

Hi

I just got the Italeri`s 1/35 Mercedes Benz L3000 and I like to buid it like an antiaircrat truck, but I have only seen pictures of the Opel blitz truck in this configuration using the 20mm flak gun, single barrel and quad, but none of the Mercedes Benz truck in this role.

Anybody Knows if the Germans Used the L3000 like a Flak Truck too, or Just the Opel Blitz?

Thanks for your advice and help.

Welcome to the forum. I don’t know much about flak trucks myself, but someone will answer soon. There isn’t a question that can’t be answered by somebody here.

The Germans used throughout the war a multitude of trucks of all sizes and shapes, some made in Germany but probably as many made in other countries and ‘requesitioned’ during the war. Little standardisation prevailled and therefore, and although I can not remember seeing a Daimler-Benz L3000 truck with a AA gun, I’d think you can assume the little AA gun would have been fitted onto a large number of different vehicles…

A quick glance through Militarfahrzeuge of the Wehrmacht yielded a few photos of M-B Type L 3000 S trucks, but I don’t see any with flaks mounted. It’s more numerous counterpart, the Opel Type 3.6 (“Blitz”), was built with “at least a hundred different bodies”. In 1943, Benz phased out production of it’s own designs to participate in the production of the Opel Blitz. Since these two trucks were very similar, I would think they would have been similarly modified, but I need to research this more to find a photo. Schiffer’s; Trucks of the Wehrmacht, ISBN: 0-88740-686-6, might shed some more light on this topic. Unfortunately, it’s not currently in my collection.

Peridexion, that’s the book I looked into and there’s no Daimler Benz L3000 with a flak gun in there either… There’s one with a Pak 36 though!

Hello to Everyone

Thanks for the help, I guess this happens when you try to build something different [;)] but as always you can get advice from the experts [:D]

If I decide to build my MB L3000 like a “Flak truck” which flak gun I should use? the 20mm quad o or single or the 37mm one?

This why I saw in a contest here in Mexico a picture of a conversion of a krupp protze with a 37 mm flak gun instead of a 20mm gun¡ and I liked how the model looked.

Regards to all Members of the Forum and the Extraordinary League of Gentleman Modelers too.

Your choice really! I think both are small enough to be OK on a 3000… It’s not like you’re trying to put a 88mm on it…!

An 88? hmmmmmmm
