Hello from North Texas!

Hello Modelers! This gal is a Mixed Media Artist most recently focusing on the various fiber arts…specifically: knitting, card making, decopage, and quilting.

My boyfriend, ModelCrazy, introduced me to scale models and gifted me my first kit! It’s a VW Type 2 Pick Up Truck 1967 by Hasagawa. I added a Yak-23 1/72 to my stash this past weekend when I attended my first show - the Fort Worth Regional. It will be my first plastic build.

Since my studio has a huge selection of various weights of paper and cardstock, I plan to get my toes wet as a modeler with some paper builds…I will post pictures if you promise not to laugh!

PS. ModelCrazy is going through some of his kits as I type this. I now have 4 more kits in my stash: Willys MB Jeep, a Craft Master Covered Wagon, a set of California Gold Miners, and a Peterboro Canoe…this is crazy [;)]

Well!

You probably will be a great Modeler with all the other skills you already have. Try a paper model too! Oh, and Welcome!!

Well, welcome to the forum, SMT! I look forward to seeing your builds!

Best regards,

Brad

Yes, with all the various papers and cardstocks I already have in my studio, I plan to start with a few paper models. I need to find a good air printer to get going…

Welcome to the forum from another North Texas modeler (Carrollton)! You’re invited to join others of us at meetings of IPMS North Central Texas on the second Sunday of each month at 1:30 pm at the Irving Garden & Arts Center. Bring your boyfriend; he’s invited, too!

Thanks Space Ranger! I’m in Celina (moving to Nevada, TX in a few months) and he’s in Sherman. It might be November before I can get to the meeting in Irving. Do you bring builds that you’ve recently completed (or working on) to ‘show and tell’ at the meeting?

Welcome aboard [;)] I guess it’s too late to warn you off about that Model Crazy guy… the rest of the bunch here is not too bad either.

Welcome aboard the Crazy Train SMT! You dabble in fiber? We got ya covered!

Paper is an amazing and fun medium! I picked up a book on how to make bugs out of tissue paper and want to give it a try:

So that’s the short tour of the insane asylum. We now return you to the regularly scheduled programming, and look forward to seeing your work.

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…I’ve never thought of doing butterflies (my FAVE creature) from tissue paper! Where did you find the book?

Yepper, a little too late for warnings about [ht]ModelCrazy[ht]! I look forward to getting to know y’all better and seeing your builds.

Oh ha-ha, I AM the cootie spreader! [:P] Apologies to Model Crazy, it’s what I do.

Here ya go:

Realistic Insects Made with Tissue: Basic Pseudotorynorrhina Japonica, Beetles, Swallowtail Butterfly, Migratory Locust | HLJ.com

This guy uses only tissue paper, so obviously he has a mind towards purity of form and such, and is thus a true craftsman/artist. I on the other hand, am not averse to using anything to attain my goals, kind of like the shady guy in an alley going “Psst. Wanna buy a book on paper insects?” [:O]

Welcome aboard! Looking forward to seeing your builds.

LOL - I am dying over here!

Being from the mixed media world, I’m not averse to using ANYTHING to attain my goals either.

The book is currently out of print…drats! There are a couple on eBay, but I will scour around for some free ‘beginner’ videos first.

Bring whatever you like: Finished models, works in progress, newly released kits/decals/aftermarket parts/books, etc., that may not have been generally seen. Ideas for programs of interest also welcome!

Then it sounds like you are in the right place. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you with us!

Stay Safe.

Welcome to our fun place. Looking forward to seeing what you do.This place is great. Lots of fun people here . I enjoy them all. Looking forward to seeing what talents you have.

Welcome aboard, Modelcrazy is a friend of mine, hope to meet him again at another Nats. Glad to have a " better half" with us…someone has to be rational at the vendors tables[:D]. Looking forward to seeing your creations and welcome again.

Oh dear! Me…rational? At a vendor table? [:O] I’m afraid ‘enabler’ is more my style!
