Hello from Colombia

Hi there !!

My Name is Carlos 33 years old and Im from Colombia. Im totally new in modellers forum.

My history with models has started at 13 years old when my dad bought the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carrier (dont remeber the brand) for himself. That night when I saw the model, Ive builded the whole model in just 1 night (finishing at 06:00am) [8D]

As you can imagine, I didnt use any tecnique, or maybe yes, the tecnique to cut, paste and paint at the end the whole model. So my dad saw a gift in me and start to give me more models. At 16 years old I was a kind of veteran, ships, aircraft, old ships, tanks, cars, motorcycles, more than 40 models was passed through my hands…until…some day the nanny by mistake put my stuff at the garbage [:(][:(][:(]

So at that time was the end of the history for me.

Now I’m back after 17 years of relax. Im back but this time I want to learn from the basics. I want to learn about tecniques, now I have the patiente and the money [:p]

SO i bought 2 models at my local store (and I must say it was pretty empty of models). I have the Revell 1:35 Ural being constructed and the Revell 1:35 SpPz 2 Luchs. I’ve detected a light lovely decision for military models since I was for 3 years internet player of Operation Flashpoint and American Army PC simulators.

But now I come here with the questions:

a) I was trying to buy some stuff like more models, contacta, masks, paintbrush, glue, etc because my stock will be reduced soon and I just founf an online store at UK called ANTICS ONLINEhttp://www.anticsonline.co.uk.

I presume this will be my first and last buy there because shipment from Europe to Colombia will be a bit expensive. So any idea about an online store at USA?

b) I was reading those others forums and what I see…Am I the only one using brushes? Or are experts using aerosol? I reckon 17 years ago I didnt have the money to think in had one of these. If the advise is to buy one. Which one brand is recommended?

c) Any of you guys is building 1:35 plastic models? Wich one is better Revell Germany or Tamiya?

Thats all for now, and Im sorry for my poor english language skills. Im still learning it.

hello. i brush paint, and i like REvell germany and dml armour

a side note, i remember a stoner friend of mine, Joe, his email had something about a columbian drug lord in it [:|]

:stuck_out_tongue:

[#welcome] Carlos. Nice to hav another member in the forum. Im sure u will enjoy the time u spend on the forum. I know i do. I only build in 1/35 scale armour and there a lot of other guys that do as well. Sorry i cant answer all your questions. But i will say that u r not the only one who uses brushes. Thats all i hav and i make do.

Enjoy your time on the forum.

Keep well.

Which brands do you build Artorius? There are some others cool brands as Tamiya or Revell Germany?

Welcome to FSM Carlos. And welcome back to the hobby.

There’s quit a few online stores in the U.S., being in Canada I usually only deal with a Canadian distibutor due to costs. Here’s a link to one that distributes out of both Canada & the U.S. http://www.militaryhobbies.ca/

Quite a few modellers still use brushes, though I find an airbrush to be the way to go.

Tamiya, Dragon, Academy, Trumpeter, AFV Club and Italeri all make very good armoured kits with Tamiya still being the best IMO.
Revell Germany is way down the list for me.

Enjoy the forums !!!

Carlose,

We welcome you. Don’t worry about you English as it is fine. Looking forward to seeing some of you work. Keep building.

Richard

Thanks for the link Sherman, I will start business with them asap. But Does anyone have idea about those guys at http://www.anticsonline.co.uk? Are they serious?

I´ve already placed my credit card 1 week ago there [:(] and at this moment they just reply they are looking the way to ship the order to my country.

Could you please tell me which brand of airbrush do you recommend? specificacionts? All that i must to know to make a good selection because I dunno nothing about these tools. Thanks

Welcome to FSM [#welcome]

About the airbrushes. You could try and have a look in the Painting and airbrushing forum and havea look at some of the old topics, I know there have been quite a few lately on which airbrush to use. But you can’t go wrong with brands like Iwata and Badger.

Welcome to the FSM Forums Carlos,

I have a 1/35 Revell Tornado in my stash that I hope to get too soon. I will let you know what it is like when I start.

[#welcome] Mate!

c u round the traps!

Welcome to the gang Carlos.

Welcome to FSM!

Welcome aboard, Carlos! Lots of great people in here, so do not hesitate to post more questions, but try to post them in the other forums, as this one, the ‘Welcome’ forum is not visited by so many members. You’ll have much more chances of getting lots of info in the other Forums (Armor, Techniques, …).

I love Revell too, but I’m into the smaller scales… Looking forward to hearing from you soon again.

Domi

Welcome to the Forums!
I build 1/35 armour, mostly tamiya.

Welcome Carlos,
I build armor sometimes (WWII and modern) but mainly spacecraft, real and sci-fi. Don’t worry - have fun and enjoy building and sharing your experiences.

HI and welcome, Carlos!

I like building a little bit of everything…but mostly armor. I like 1/35 scale stuff and have mostly DML/ Dragon kits. I hope to see your work posted on here in the near future.

Regards, Dan
