Good whatever the time of day it is when you read this.
I am new to modelling forums, but not new to modelling. I don’t have a particular type that I like to build, nor a particular medium. I currently have a wooden viking ship and injection motorcycle on the go, and will soon have a paper 1:144 scale Apollo LUT. I have a number of resin airliners as well as injection moulded ones stashed away for retirement. The intention is to build an example of each of the major aircraft types I have worked on throughout my career as an aircraft engineer, as well as a representative from each of the airlines I have spent some time with. I would dearly love to build the rotary types I have worked or am currently working on, but sadly the rotary section of modelling tends to be military so many of the types are not available.
I do occasionally build straight out of the box but more often than not there has to be some ‘added value’ such as lighting or avionics units, moving radar etc.
The motorcycle currently being built will have working head and tail lights, the LUT will have working lights on the gantries and decks (approximately 300 LEDs). The viking longship has extra ribs, as per the original, and the deck planks will be in short sections, rather than full length as depicted in the kit. I have also spent many hours adding nails to the planking, which whilst not quite to scale certainly enhance the appearance.
I hope to gain many tips and ideas from the immensely skilled modellers in this forum, and occasionally hope to contribute too if it is something I can help with.
