The name is Buster, I am brand spanking new here and relatively new to the modelling game. I was an avid kit builder when I was a kid, but then I used to open a kit, glue it together, then clear off outside to play with my mates. This time I would like to have a far more earnest go at it.
I am an ex-submariner (27 years) who now finds himself as a simulator engineer. I am also an avid motorbiker, which is what lead me back to this hobby. I had a massive RTA a couple of years back and it took me several months to recover. More recently I underwent more femoral surgery which has left me in a wheelchair for a couple of months and stacks of time on my hands and I just can’t take daytime telly, so I am gonna build a ship, I have bought several kits in, the Revell 1/200 frigate, which is too wee for my eyes and fat fingers, I also got the 1/144 HMS Victory - same problem, so I have just opened and decided to have a go at the Airfix 1/72 HMS Bounty.
I stumbled on this website whilst I was searching for kits and advice.
You never know, I could be here for some time. [prte]
Welcome Buster! Can’t wait to see your builds! I have to second the kudos on being on ships! I did 21 years Air Force, can’t imagine being on ship for any length of time!
Yes, I have seen that. I don’t often do ships, but I was thinking of getting one. I had a great week on board there, never meet a friendlier bunch of guys. Very generous with the beer and we even got a genuine white Ensign each at the end of it.
Apart from the lack of space, it was the routine that got me, 6 on 6 off for months at a time. Give me the desert any day.
