Hello and help

Good morning (afternoon). My brother and I have built models all our lives, though I got away from it for a while. My bother passed in 2012 and all (ALL) his (mostly unbuilt) models came to me. I plan to build some, but would like to sell/donate the rest. Any suggestion? I do eBay, but I literally have a stack of models (mostly 1/72 scale) 16ft long, and 5ft high. That’s a LOT of eBay!

Second, more direct question - a few of his kits are unbuilt Verlinden North and South pieces. I would like to build one, maybe two, but not all. Here the issue - none of them have instructions! I read on line that some Verlinden kits did not come with instructions. I would like to build Kit 1601 - a Union 100pdr Parrot. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Instructions??!!

Welcome to the Forums!

Maybe there is a hobby shop located nearby that would buy the older kits. There is one located about an hour away from me that buys kits from estate sales, etc.

About Verlinden things, I have no clue–but someone else here probably does.

Welcome aboard. You’re local veterans hospital should have a program available to veterans that involves model building to cope with PTSD. You can always give them a call and see if they are needing any donations.

Welcome to the forums, C&M!

I’ll second MoparMadness about the VA and donating kits to groups that will get them to servicemen. If you look at the forum index, in fact, you will a thread for just that very topic. MM mentioned building models for veterans with PTSD, but there are also groups that collect kits and send them to troops deployed overseas.

You might also check with your local Scout or Cub Scout troops, and see if they would be interested in taking them.

If you want to get rid of them but get something for them, then it depends on how much effort you want to expend. If you want to get rid of them quickly, I would look for the nearest modeling show, take a table, and sell them there. If you have the time to post them on eBay, and then get the highest bids, and don’t mind processing them, then of course, that may the most lucrative way.

Best regards,

Brad

Good idea, but the only hobby shop near me (South GA) is Hobby Lobby.

Thanks for the response.

I will check with the VA facilities. There are several nearby.

Will check with the local VA facilities. I will also check with deployed Soldiers. Not sure about that one, they seem to keep Soldiers pretty busy, but Airmen and Sailors are a possibility. I did check with one Scout unit, but not much enthusiasm. I will try to check with others.

ClocksandModels,

I’m usually pretty good on finding things online but I struck out on Verlindens Union 100pdr Parrot instructions. There are a few YouTube videos for Verlinden kits but not much on the North and South line. Most Resin kits like Verlinden’s have few parts and the Box Artwok may be all you need to assemble it. If there is PE, I susect there should have been instructions. I believe if no PE is included, it can be built from the pictures on the box by a modeler experienced with Resin kits.

If you have any of the Ship kits sans instructions, I have Verlinden’s CSS Atlanta kit & Instructions and a copy of Verlinden’s Monitor Instructions. If you need those, I can send. I have a Private Message on the way to you too.

Thanks for the great Donation Idea. I Hope you find some good homes for all your Brothers kits.

Nino

P.S. Don’t forget to check here too…
