Hello all from the Philippines

Greetings to all members of the modelling community!

First of all I would like to introduce myself. I am Ferdie Baquiran, 37/M from Las Pinas City, Philippines. I am an otolaryngologist by profession and have been building scale models since I was about 10 years old. I was first interested in building 1/72 scale WWII aircrafts then gradually started building tanks, boats and sci-fi models. Now I am mostly into 1/35 scale armor (WW2 & Modern) and 1/72, 1/48 scale aircraft (WW2 & Modern).

Scale Modelling here in the Philippines used to be popular but recently it seems like a dying hobby. There are only a few stores that still cater to our hobby and its difficult or nearly impossible to obtain tools of our trade. Its hard to get even the most basic paints that I need and I have been looking, without success, for a scribing tool. Ordering from the US or other countries is not really an option for me.

Due to these problems I have neglected the hobby for some time but recently, especially when I started reading your magazine, I started again. Your magazine really is wonderful. The tips that are given really helpful. I have learned more from reading your magazine in the last 2 years than I have since I started making models.

I hope that your magazine makes me into a better modeller. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome!! Modeling in the Phillapines may be more vibrant them you think. This forum has a good sized community of modelers from your neck of the globe.

Welcome to the gang. Looking forward to your input.

Welcome to FSM Ferdie. As cassibill has already pointed out, you’ll find many Philippinos active here.

Enjoy the forums!!!

Welcome to the forums Ferdie

Welcome to the Forums, Ferdie! Maraming mga Pinoy dito! (There are a lot of Filipinos here) A good scribing tool IS difficult to come by here, so the moment i saw one, i bought it striaght away! I found mine (a Bare Metal Foil Scriber) at JMN’s Hobby Shop in Harrison Plaza (they have a great selection of kits as well as lots of reference material and aftermarket parts)

If you need help finding more paint or equipment, just send me an e-mail, or better yet start up a topic in the appropreate forum. Another thing you could do is join a club. That way you can get advice and help from Filipino modelers. I’m a member of IMPS Bert Anido Chapter, and it’s fantastic! [:)]

Hello Ferdie, Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys! I’m glad to know that there are members of FSM here in the Philippines and would like to get in contact with them. To shrike: been to JMN’s (one of my favorite stores} but they are out of stock of scribing tools when I last went there. Anyway looking forward to chatting with all of you guys!

Ferdie as said earlier - “You are not alone.” A large contingent is out there ready to help you in your time of need, I would imagine.
If you get into Sci Fi again, look cassibill, woody, and I up. As I said before, “Good people - great site”.

Need the Pooollllaaarrr LLLLiiiighhts NX-01 now!

Welcome to the family Ferdie!!!

Oi kabayan! [:)]

Welcome to FSM [#welcome]
See you in the aircraft forum and in the armor forum.

Hmmmm. This is why Converse and Filipinos are very similar…

“They’re Everywhere!” He-he-he.

Sorry there I know that Converse is an old shoe brand and many have probably forgotten that motto.

Anyway, hello there kabayan. Nice for you to drop by. As everybody said, there are lots of Filipinos here so “you are not alone…” He-he-he.

Welcome.

Hello Ferdie… welcome to FSM. I’m a modeler too from alabang. Just a question cause you’re from Las Pinas and your surname is somewhat quite familiar. Are you in any way familiar with or related to Brett… Brett Baquiran? [:)]

HI and welcome Ferdie!

This truly is a great magazine, and the forums make it that much better.

Regards, Dan

Welcome to FSM!

Hey cbrain!

Is he a pilot for Cebu pacific or his brother? Does he live in Pilar Village? . If yes and their father is a pilot for Cebu Pacific then he’s a cousin of mine.

I believe nag-pilot siya. Yep he’s from Pilar when I was in high-school (ewan ko kung dun pa rin siya). Friend and classmate ko siya dati sa Zobel. Malamang he’s around 29 y.o. na rin ngayon. [:)] Honga pala… he’s also a great guitar player.
