Heller P-39 1/72 (pix)

Here is my Airacobra from Heller. The kit is alright, no major fitting problems-- the only complaint I have is the raised panel lines, which I tried to highlight with a silver pencil.

I motorized it and this time I took pictures of the process. The pager motor is held in place by modeling clay (the white stuff) The clay holds it tight yet allows for minor adjustments for the prop. The switch is the pitot tube and the power supply is a 3V watch battery held in the fuselage. It can be changed through the wheel bay with tweezers and a little patience.

All the vents and exhaust pipes have been drilled out and the wing guns and machine guns have been replaced by brass tubes and hypodermic needels respectively.

Thanks for letting me share.

Way cool!!!

That’s a very nice looking P-39, and the panel lines look great. That trick with the silver pencil has really done the job. And as for the spinning prop, you better be careful it doesn’t fly off!!!LOL

Karl

Great job, I made the same kit a couple of years ago and it didn’t look half as good. My hat goes off.

looks good. very imaginative.

Great build of an old kit & the motorization is very inventive [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking P-39, I really like the spinning prop.

Most Excellent !

A very nice looking bird. If you don’t mind me asking … about how much did it cost for the extras?

Wow that is so cool!!!
I love the motor part and great job on the weathering!!!
GOOD JOB!!!

Great work, Borislav! I’d say the raised lines don’t detract from the model at all. Nice weathering, particularly the exhaust stain along the side.

I’m no P-39 expert by any means, but I’ve never seen one with a four-bladed prop. Is that a later model?

I would say it cost additional $20 -$25 for the extras.
The kit came with optional 3 or 4 blade propeller and I went for the four blades. I think it must be the Kingcobra or something.
Borislav

Good choice! I always prefer more blades, if given a choice.

Awesome… the spinning prop is really cool!!! That Airacobra looks really great… the panel lines came out just right… really great look.

Nice work, Borislav. Just wonfering whether a bit of red paint may be useful to hide the white trim around the us insigna on the wing…?

Keep us the good work!

WoW I love it ,its very cool alright . and handy on
a hot day too.
Beautifully done Boris.

Awesome work! Motorizing a1/72 scale aircraft; now that’s talent!

A trick that I use for raised panel lines/rivets is under coat the kit with the colour that you want to show through , paint the kit and gently remove the paint on the panel line with a sanding stick .
