HI,FROM BRAINDONOR,I HAVE OF 1 OF EACH OF THESE KITS (1/72 SCALE) AND I CAME ACROSS IN AIR INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE VOL.71 No4 WITH PHOTOS SHOWING OF BUFFALO AIRWAYS DC-4/C54,DC-3,CURTIS C-46,THEY SAY IN THE MAG.THAT THE COLOUR IS TURQUOISE(or 57 Chevy green),COULD ASK IF YOU ME WHAT COLOUR WHICH WOULD I USE? I’M HOPING YOU MAY HELP ME TO FINISH MY KITS EVENTUALLY,THANK VERY MUCH,REGARDS,
Braindonor
For that color I would go to an auto parts store and have them mix it up for you. They should have that color mix listed. Just go in and tell the 57 Chevy turqouise.
Braindonor…
That’s a good tip…I’ve had colors custom mixed in auto acrylic about a half dozen times - and for aircraft (and car models), I always prefer automotive acrylic…
It dries hard, it dries very quickly, it adheres extremely well, and can be cut and polished just like a full sized car, so you can get rid of ALL the dust specks.
Just make sure you buy some white or light grey primer made by the same company that makes the paint…and get thinners made by the same company. If they’re all made by the same company, it’s unlikely the primer/paint/thinners combo will react badly with each other, as sometimes happens if you mix manufacturers products.
Make sure you use a cellulose type putty (like a spot putty) that’s compatible with the paints…you’re gonna need a whole bunch of putty…[:O]
My condolences must go out to you…you’ve got a Mach 2 Douglas DC-4…I have one as well (it’s a contract build - shudder ) and it’s utter [censored]…oh well…there’s a whole bucketload of elbow grease that’s gonna be needed to turn that sow’s ear into a silk purse…I kid you not.
As it turns out, Model Master 28114 Tropical Turquoise (57 Chevy) is available too in a shaker can, I think. I’ve got an old can of it that I used to use to paint oxidized copper on a lightship model bottom. Looks close enough to me.
Where are you getting decals?
As far as I can tell Buffalo doesn’t have a DC-6, which is too bad because that Heller model is a very nice one. I’d really like to see the C-54: I’ve got a couple/ three Mach 2 models of other types that scare the lights out of me whenever I open the box…
There are a number of nice C-47s of course, and I’ve built the Williams Bros. C-46 which went together just fine and is a good addition to any civil working bird collection.

Sorry about the strangely long link but it’s a great shot of their C-46.
Good luck and I’m looking forward to your build.
LMAO!!!
The Mach 2 models scare the lights outta you whenever you open the box!!! LOL…what a hoot…
I agree totally…I’ve got a DC-4 that a guy brought round for a contract build…I normally charge $250 per build for a 1/72 airliner…but this one’s different…he’s gonna paaaaaaay…boy, is he gonna pay…LOL
Scary stuff, man…but it’s the only game in town…bummer…
Hi Bondoman, thanks for your reply,I live in Scotland but I believe Hannant’s deal with Model Master on their web-site,in England with I have an account ,I may be able to go to a company called Halfords, and they make auto paints so I’ll contact them.I’ll have a look through Hannant’s site,I’ll let you know & how I get on with it.I should be able to use my scanner for the main Buffalo Airways items and I might be to do a conversion for the decals,as I say, thank very much for your help,
Regards,
Braindonor
Hi Bondoman,I hope you’ll be to help me again,I want to build a 1/72 Israeli AF Skyhawk,BUT it has to have the extended tailpipe,I’ve looked through all my mags books and I can’t find any info to use anything to suitable for the tailpipe,I’m sure there something in my books must have made a similar model,I just can’t find it anywhere, any suggestions?I hope you can help, thanks (again !!!).OH,I’m afraid I havent finished the Mach DC-4 Buffalo Airways kit yet, again thanks,Braindonor
I’m even more useless than normal if the a’c is missing its props.
I’d ask el_jere, he knows a lot abt Argie aircraft which is where those hawks ended up, I believe.
Here’s how you make a C-54 from a Heller DC-6.
I’ll email you the drawings.

Hi Bondoman, thanks re.the Israeli A4 Skyhawk,I’m still trying to find any details on the extended tailpipe,if you don’t mind,I’ll send my email about the C-54/DC-6. I’m boatman1@freeuk.com .Hopefully maybe I’ll get it finished sometime,Again thanks, braindonor (David)
