This is my current project. It is a Hasegawa F6F-5 kit converted to F6F-3. It is my first attempt at usins a resin engine by aires, cockpit from jaguar and wheels from true details. I only have pics of the wheels and engine at the moment. The pics aren’t great quality but I Hope you like them anyway.
engine side view, The exhaust stacks are made of solder.
another view of the P&W R-2800 engine.
The wheels and landing gear, The oleos are bare metal foil and the brake lines are thin wire painted black.
hope you like the pics. And tell me what you think.
Hey ping,
I really like how you detailed the engine. What gage wire did you use and what did you use for the exhaust sys??
By chance did you use a wash for the weathering or is that how it just turned out via painting.
Aren’t those Aires engines nice!! For some reason I did not think that Jaguar did an interior for the F6F!! Well I thought wrong[:p]
Anywho I am looking forward to more of your progress pix. Do you knowwhat scheme you are goingto put her in?? Two tone or three?
Again very nice from what I can see.
Flaps up, Mike
Look gorgeous Ping!!! How did you get the solder to blend in with the engine?? Did you have to use a filler, and gently sand it?? I always wonder how people who use solder pull off not having the gap. Thanks for the peek, can’t wait for more!!!
WHOA! looking nice pingtang. What colors did you use for the engine. By the way, its great to know that you live in Australia. I have a cousin studying there in Perth, [:P] Hope to see you in the forums again!
magic8796- This is the first time I’ve used the BMF and it was really easy and didn’t turn out to badly. I just cut a strip to the right width wrap it around and cut it off where it met on the other side. I just made sure the join was where it wouldn’t be as visible.
Butz- The ignition wires are the PE set that came with the Aires set and the exhaust stacks are thick solder that was to scale and I had lying around. I used model master chrome silver for the cylinders and then washed and dry-brushed. The crank-case is a colour I mixed myself and it got the same treatment as the cylinders. Jaguar do a interior set for the F6F but I think it is out of production ( I was lucky enough to pick on up at the Local hobby shop they had it there for a while.) I will be doing her in the tri-colour scheme in the markings of Alex Vraciu with red bordered insignias.
kik36- I just used gap filling CA glue and used a needle file where necessary then painted over it. I did’nt realy need to sand because the CA does a pretty good job of making the seam pretty good by itself.
Carnage- I used model master chrome silver on the cylinder, a mix of tamiya grays on the crank-case, Tamiya Dark Copper on the ignition harness and I picked out the details with tamiya acrylics. The whole thing was given an acrylic wash and then dry brushed.
9x19mm- If I can do something like this I’m sure you could too (I’m only 19 and this is my first attempt at adding aftermarket products). Hope to see some pics of your Hellcat one day.
I hope to have some pics of the interior up when I can manage to get some good shots of it. Once again thanks for the kind comments.
Thats very nice Ping. Are you doing the aircraft with the number 11 on it like in your post image. Keep up the good work. Very well done. I think she’ll look nice when she’s finished. Thanks for sharing. Keep us up to date.
It looks great! I really like the way your landing gears and wheels turned out. I am working on a Hellcat right now too and will be very pleased if it turns out as nice.
I’m excited to see your interior shots when you get them.
