Heinkel He111... The Wings are ON! The Wings are ON!

[:p]Holy mackrel, at the rate I’m going, this project will be done about the time my 9 year old graduates medical school! But as you can see, it’s creeping along…

And what am I using this time for gap filler? Would you believe…

Yes, I AM nuts!

Yeah, we know…

Lookin’ mighty fine, Nerd…

Fade to Black…

That’s a fine kit (I’ve built two now) and you seem to be doing a fine job. What’s the final color scheme going to be?

Looks very nice indeed, and nice cockpit. Woodfiller, maybe I oughta give that a try.

that looks like great progress to me. i say well done so far.

joe

I will be applying the RLM#71 and #70 “splinter” pattern, with the white engine cowl & tail. I thought the night bomber (all black) scheme would be a tad too easy!

And now, I am afraid for myself, as it is time for me to mask the greenhouse!

hey modelnerd, i’ve always wondered how wood filler wood would work when wings were wacked…sorry, my fingers got tied!![;)] i’ve always wondered how wood filler would work for filling gaps on styrene. so, how does it work? later.

Nice progress so far. Good luck on the masking task/challenge ahead.

Regards, Rick

Nerd, looking good.I would not have thought of wood filler for gap filler.I know that it would problibley fill smoother and sand smother.Digger

Well, here’s the rub, ‘Dawg. It goes on smooth an’ buttery, cleans up nice with a damp rag, but I haven’t a clue what the ultimate outcome will be. This is a (not so) grand experiment, being tried for the first time. In the past I have tried drywall joint compound, it works well enough, but it’s touchy because it’s very soft, even after dry, and will crack if flexed. So I thought I’d try the wood filler this time, because I know it’s a great deal tougher, and it can be drilled, sanded, and painted, in addition to being water-soluable, and fume-free. I do not like conventional “Squadron” type putties because I have seen it melt and deform styrene, in addition to it being highly toxic and vaporious. The only thing I wanna get high on is life!

I will share the results of my wood putty endeavour as soon as I see what happens when it’s painted up.

well, being a builder for a living, i will tell you that it is apt to skrink, so it may take a couple of applications. i don’t know how well it’ll bond to styrene either, so it, like joint compound, may crack as well. good luck, and let me know how it comes out friend. later.

looking good nerd ditto on the good luck for the canopy

lookin mighty fine o’ comical one…
its the wood that makes it good.

Looks good- looks like the one I’ve got on my bench right now. I haven’t been able able to touch mine for over three weeks, so I feel your pain. Next weekend- I’m gonna finish mounting the damned vacuform canopy!

Hi ya ModelNerd

Your project looks very good … and sometimes … slow and steady is the best way to proceed. [swg]

Wood filler … hmmm … I hope you let us know how your experiment turns out on the filler … [%-)]

Oh, and good luck with the “glass bits” … [^]

Now that the wings are on, see if she flies

looking good[tup]

Looking great so far.
