I just picked up a kit of the 162D from my LHS this morning, is this a protype plane only or did it see any action? It has forward swept wings and a V tail. Haven’t seen it before in any of the books I have and didn’t find anythin here on finescale forum either.
Thinkin on doing somkind of a diorama around it but would be nice to now if it was ever used or is it plane that existed only on the drawing board.
I recently bought the game IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. This plane is included, and it’s a tough little bird to fight against. But like Marc said it never made it past the paper. I’ve never seen a kit of this, I hope as you build it you share your progress!
Thanks for the comments, yes it’s the new Dragon 1/48 kit. I was browsing the shelvs of the LHS and tought it was a normal 162, then when I saw the box art with forwar swept wings I was sold. Going to build it OOB just ad seatbelts.
Just opened the box and it look ok. A few etched parts and also the conventional wings and tail to make an A version.
I dug a little deeper and managed to find some info that one protype was made but not flown. It was a hybrid C/D version, the diffrence being the wing sweap direction.
The plane is next on my build list after I manage to get my meteor finnished. I’ll post some pics as I get started.
The good thing is that my 4 week holiday is starting next monday, so just 4 weeks of model building and flying RC planes
yeah, I have the game too, and the -162D isprobably my favorite of the “luft '46” planes, both because of its performance and just because it looks freakin’awesome.
