Worked most of the day on this one to get it finished up so I can start on my next project. Quite a few extra goodies done to this Hasegawa 1/72 scale kit. Cockpit was improved, rear crew area detailed and new gunner’s seat made from scratch…plus an Aeroclub MG 15 to replace the basic kit version. Details added to the landing gear, vac canopy replacement for the top gunner postion, and a sun shield made from paper and detailed with pencil for the Pilot’s overhead access door/window. Paint is Gunze 70/71 over Pollyscale 65.
Wow!!! That looks great Joe. I especially like the weathering and oil stains. It really makes it come alive. Are you doing a write up for your build somewhere?
Awesome work Joe!!! That’s a lot of detail packed into (my favorite) 1/72 scale.
The weathering and paint is perfect! (weathering is something I need to learn).
Those A/M parts make all the difference don’t they?
I’ve been needing to get myself a 111, and I think you’ve sold me on that kit.
Hey guys…thanks for the nice feedback!
*Sean, I had a nice belly photo lying right next to me as I painted the exhaust stains for help in getting it right.
Dave, I used pre-shading, post-shading, washes and even pastels for the weathering on this one. I am going to write a review for Modeling Madness today…should be up in a couple weeks depending on the size of Scott’s que.
*Stinger, it is a great kit and one that I thoroughly enjoyed building…a couple minor issues but nothing major. There actually are very few aftermarket goodies on this one…just the top gun and canopy. All other details are scratch…I even used the kit decals which is something I usually try not to do.
Thanks Pix, your work is an inspiration and I use your detail pics as a good example as a level to strive for!
Very, very nice! Did you lighten any of your base colors during the weathering process? You have done justice to that 1/72 kit - I would have thought it was the Monogram 1/48th with lots of AM goodies.
Karl, I love to hear that as that is really one of my goals. I believe 1/72 can have all the detail of larger scales. It just takes good eyes or maginification! [:D]
*Glad to help Tom!
*Ray, I did not lighten the colors though they do change slightly with the application of the gloss and flat coats.
Very impessive, Joe[tup]! I also agree with the others about the superb job you did on the weathering. Obviously a lot of time and effort went into the build. It does look big, even for 1/72! Thanks for sharing.
