Was pulling out stuff I finished last year to take to the Richmond, Virginia show this coming weekend and thought I’d post a few picks. Neither of these is contest winning quality but what the heck I might as well compete eh?
This is the Hasegawa kit of the Nakajima Ki-43 II Hayabusa (Perigrine Falcon) done in colours of the Royal Thai Air Force. Thailand was ahem ‘invited’ to join the Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere… or else… As one of Hasegawa’s newer kits the fit is flawless. The only thing I added was a Eduard ZOOM set to the cockpit but it’s almost impossible to see. The only regret I had is the airbrush I was using wasn’t really up to the camo scheme and I’ve since bought a better one for detail. I didn’t do much weathering since I doubt the aircraft were used very often.
This is FineMold’s Ki-43 III built as a late model Ki-43 II. You can see the difference in the stacks on the sides of the cowling. Good kit though it’s late '80s tech and no where near the new Hasegawa kit. Again I decided to skimp on the weathering.
Very impressive work, especially on the Thai Oscar… Panel-line shading’s a bit heavy-handed on the Oscar II for my personal tastes, but they’re both still outstanding models…
von Hammer- thanks and green/grey being a little on the bland side I suppose I over-compensated on the panel shading. Well, point taken and I’ll dial it back a little on the next one.
I agree with Mucker about the panel lines on the 2nd plane, but overall great builds. Like everyone says, the Thai markings and camo is great - unusual and well executed. Good luck at the contest.
