After four months of slow progress, my first build after about 8 years is finally done. This was completed for the Battle of Britain GB.
The subject is YOJ of RCAF No. 1 Sqdrn in mid to late Sept, 1940. No. 1 Sqdrn was the only operational Canadian Squadron to participate in the BoB. They arrived in England in June of 1940 and replaced their Canadian built Hurricanes for some updated RAF machines. By Aug, they became combat operational, making their first interception of German aircraft on August 26(?). By November they were taken off of combat duty for some rest and in March of 1941 the Squadron was renamed 401 so as to not confuse it with RAF No.1 (all Canadian Sqdns had a 400 number from that point on). This particular aircraft was one of a detailed list from an armourers maintenance log from September, 1940 (I chose YOJ for obvious reasons[;)]). Unfortunately, I couldn’t find photos of it so I had to embelish some of the details.
I hope you like it, I certainly enjoyed the build and I learned (and tried) a lot of new things. Swanny, thanks for the salt chipping technique, I think it turned out very well.[:)] It is all OOB except the vacformed canopy and a few scratched items like the compass and seat belts. The squadron codes and serials are printed on a testors custom decal sheet.
Enjoy! (and any comments more than welcome!) [:D]

Very nice looking model Jay, Is that the Hase. kit? Nice job on the camo and weathering.
Jerry
Looks good nice job on the weathering.
Thanks for the comments dragonfly and mkhoot, Yes it is the Hasegawa 1:48 Kit. I forgot to put that in the first post.[8D]
Nicely done Jay! Well worth the effort [tup]. Now you can get back to the yard work before the Canadian GB starts! [:D]
Dave, thanks. I have another weather system moving in soon! (Typhoon is close to being finished! [(-D]). But yes, I have a lot of yard to work to do. I have two weeks off in July to get most of it done but there is still so much to prepare for the yard and still some models I want to get going on. I am so pumped now for the Canadian GB![8-]
Wow, looks beautiful. Thanks for the high quality pics.
Very nice build Jay
Great job on the weathering too.
Chris

Darwin, O.F. [alien]
Matthew, Chris, Rick, Thad, Joe, Fred and Darwin, Thanks for the comments. Since I put it on the shelf last night I think I’ve gone down to the basement at least 10 times just to look at it!
This build has deffinately inspired me to build more, incidentally my next three new builds will all be Canadian Subjects! I have several older ones I have to finish that are not Canadian but will be just as much fun to finish.[:D]
Very nice build, Jay! How hard was it to do the salt chipping technique with the camo? I considered it for my last build, but will all the masking I had to do I decided against it.
Mark
I’ve already said it in the Gb forum but Fantastic work Jay[tup][tup] Keep us posted on your other builds mate…
Thanks for the comments Mark and Jules.
Mark - The salt chipping was actually fairly easy, after I sprayed dark earth, I removed the salt where the masks laid down (being very careful at the mask edge). That way there was still salt left where the dark green was sprayed. It actually sticks pretty good. I think the result was pretty good for my first try!
What a comeback, feels good right!?
Your Hurricane looks fantastic, I just love that AC
Very nice build!!!
Really impressive…
Cheers,
Jürgen
