I currently have a Revell/ Loon models 109G-10, Academy Me 163B and this superb new kit from Hasegawa going on the bench. (all 1/72 of course [:)]).
I am very impressed with the He 111H-6 so far. It has to be one of if not the most detailed Hasegawa kits I have built in 1/72 scale. I have the wings built up, (not pictured), and the interior mostly done and next will be the joining of the fuselage. I added some details in the cockpit and especially in the rear crew area as it was bare except for the interior skin structure. I have to add the rudder pedals and supports to the cockpit.
Looking good so far. How did you do the seatbealt, or were they part of the kit’s seat? I really like how you di the seat cushens, they look really good
Thanks Richard, the seat belts were photo-etch and were actually included in the kit…something new for Hasegawa I believe. The seat bottoms were given a wash of raw umber and grimy black to give them a worn look. The sliding wooden cover in front of the bomb aimer’s postion was done by first paiting it a wood tone, weathering as mentioned, then dry brushing progressively lighter shades of wood tones.
Nice start Joe. I have this one in my stash & plan on building it in the next few months. I agree that it is a good looking kit in the box. The He-111P just got released also. Thanks for sharing.
Hey guys, glad you like it so far. Karl, I agree, I would really like a Ju-88 without all the accuracy issues of the AMT and Italeri kits. I plan to build the Italeri Ju-188 over the next year…of course a new kit that does not have to be re-scribed would be a time saver.
Rick, I would put this one on your “to build” list for sure. Its really well done and such an improvement over the very aged Italeri kit. Lets hope Hasegawa keeps releasing these important WW2 twins!
Hey guys, maybe we should start a hasegawa He 111 Group build. [:D]
I too have thhis one in the stash and plan to build it for the Battle of Britain GB. I look forward to more progress picks from you Joe and from Rick hopefully. Looks great Joe! How’s it going together? Let us know if there are any issues we should know about ahead of time.
Looks great to me Joe. I have a couple 111’s in my stash that I bought as part of collections sold on ebay. I was thinking of reselling them but depending on how this one turns out I may give mine a shot.
Thanks guys…Dave, its going together well so far. I have assembled to engines and mounted them to the wings. A little sanding is needed to get an even fit but nothing major. The engine nacelles go together well also with some minor sanding needed again to get an even fit of all parts. Some minor re-scribing is needed to restore a couple lines and screw heads. Dry fit of other parts indicates no major fit issues to come. I’ll be doing a full build review for ModelingMadness.com when its done.
Thanks for the info Joe. I’ll be looking forward to that review.
Yes I too hope they keep turning out some new 1/72 molds such as the Ju 88188 or the Do 17/217. None of the british bombers have been done in a long time either. I’d love to have a new halifax kit. Academy seems to be doing a good job on the B-17, Revell has done some nice German aircraft (He 177, BV222 and Ju 290) but no one seems to be doing the British aircraft. Okay some of their planes were butt ugly but really… someone needs to fill the gap.
That’s one beautiful kit and it’s getting off to one great-looking build. It’s nice to see a decently engineered wing-join in that scale.
I wondered about this one, because last month wound up with the first four of Eduard’s new line of decals, and in 1/72 the He-111 was their first release. One of the four He-111s on the sheet is a H-6 on the Russian front with a whitewash over the factory paint and RLM 70 undersides with the standard RLM 65 on the after fuselage and lower wingtips, and red spinners. Really stands out. I thought it was odd that Eduard picked a subject they don’t even make parts for, and the decals for that one bird are flagged specifically for this kit. But on their December release list coming out in the next week or so, there is a new photoetched set for the Hasegawa H-6 kit.
Tom
The He-111 is on my christmas list. It looks really good. I really wish Hasegawa would do an A-20 or A-26 in 1/72, to go along with tier mitchell. Of course, I wouldn’t have a problem with new British bombers either.
Thanks guys…yep, lets hope these kits are successful so that Hasegawa and others are inclined to do more subjects. The 111 was a no brainer but there are others that will do well I think. As mentioned, the A-20…PLEASE, and subjects like the B-26, Wellington, Hampden, Halifax and even a new Lancaster would be nice.
I would love to see a Hampden, can’t imagine there is much chance of a Whitley though!
There are a lot of ,particularly early war, twins that would benefit from a revisit, as I’m pretty sure most of the machines listed in this thread would be good long term sellers.
Nerd, Dj, thanks for the encouragement!
You’re probably right Karl though a detailed Whitley would be amazing wouldn’t it!! Not a big seller though so we’ll never see it…except maybe from one of the MPM brands. I still have my old Frog boxed Whitley. Its basic but really not too bad. I have often thought about diving into it as a major detail project.
Good looking build so far! I have that kit too so am a little anxious to see how yours turns out. I’ll have to look back through the box to see if the PE belts came with mine…
—edit—
yup they’re there… I guess I didnt notice the “bonus” sticker on the box saying it had Dragon detail stuff in it…
I agree, a Halifax would be welcome from this user… the airfix kit looks ok from a distance but up close it is lacking…
