I was thinking of buying Hasegawa’s EA-6B Prowler , kit No. 00538 in the 1/72 scale . I would like to know If the windscreen , front and rear canopy’s are each one piece units or do you have to glue the canopy’s down the middle like Hasegawa’s A-6E Intruder.[It was so frustrating trying to get a neat join on the Intruder’s canopy.] I’ve since bought both Revell’s and Italeri’s A-6E Intruder’s they have a better canopy arrangement . So before I go and spend $35 [AUS] , could any please tell me what the kit is like ,especially the canopy arrangement . Any help is greatly appreciated. Kind Regard’s John.
It’s from entirely new molds, from the wheels up. The canopies are one piece. The only glitch is the windscreen is tinted like the canopy and it should be clear. The instrument panel is also a little off (the right front seat’s should be about six inches farther aft) and the ejection seat head rests are far too wide. The rear seats sit a little too low. There are some other minor errors and a few configuration differences among the different versions (Basic, Expanded Capability, Improved Capability, etc) to consider if you’re of a mind to.
The glass arrangement is a single piece windscreen, two pieces for the forward cockpit and a single piece for the rear. Overall , the kit is pretty good with recessed panel lines but the cockpit could use a little help. There are decals for the instruments but the seats are not the greatest. If you really want one in this scale, this is the kit ot get, IMHO.
Eduard’s photo-etch set does a good job of dressing up the cockpit to ICAP II standards and can also dress up the seats. True details makes resin GRU-7 seats - they are a tight fit in some of the kits, but if the one you’re speaking of is a new tooling it might work better.
