Your “Kate” is progressing along nicely and that camo scheme looks great on their. The “Kate” was such an effective plane for its purpose, especially early in the war. I can’t wait to see the completed build.
It’s also a very elegant aircraft with those long wings. I don’t know much about the Pacific Campaign, so I tend to ignore it when purchasing kits, but from time to time, I like to give in into uncharted Japanese seas.
That’s a good looking Kate you have there.
In fact, it looks a wee bit familiar.
I believe someone commented when I posted this build back in 2018 that it appeared as if Kate had a case of the chicken-pox.
That looks awesome! Was the Japanese dark green that Olive Green looking?
@Sturmovik It does appear to favor an olive green hue, doesn’t it? I can’t honestly say. I have been keeping build logs for years, but I can’t seem to find the one I was using at the time of this build. In those logs, I note the exact brand and color of paint I will use. It probably came from a box set of Vallejo Japanese Navy colors that I still have, but that’s only a guess without the log.
I’ll make sure to try the Vallejo shades for Japanese aircraft. I have two bottles for USMC aircraft, but I’m not really convinced on the need to prime the surface just to add the brand’s colours, even when primed, the paint seems to flake off, maybe I need to let it harden some more hours?. So far, Revell Aqua are great, no need to prime ln most cases (unless it’s orange/red/yellow/white).
Decals and landing gear legs are on! This pic was taken after I gave the model a matt varnish, that’s why the gear legs are on here. The numeral on the right side of the rudder refused to move, and broke when I tried to move it, so I used the red letters without white outline provided in the kit. It’s weird Hase provided spares but with the incorrect format.
@Sturmovik Kate is coming along nicely.
Wheels and canopy glued! I can call my build for the Japanese Group Build XIV finished! Here are the final reveal pics. A video build will come in the future.
Wow, that’s incredible. I love the camoflage pattern. The decals look very clean
Thanks! I considered doing the scheme with the red empennage, but it would have taken lots of masking. Maybe on a second Kate I’ll do the red scheme. Decals took some Mr. Mark Softer before they sunk into the panel lines, I love coming back home to see them conformed to the model’s irregularities.
Nicely done! Did you use the kit decals or aftermarket?
Kit decals, I don’t know if there’re afters for the Kate.
Kate turned out great. It’s nice to see a second “chicken-pox” Kate.
The mottling does give it some life.
Excellent looking Kate. I love the camouflage! Congratulations on a fine build!
