I’ve been given the choice to pic a few things for my birthday on wednesday, and I’ve been trying to decide on kits that I would like.
I’ve come down to the Revell Ju52 and Hasegawa P-40.
I’ve herd/read good things about the Ju52, but is there anything I should know about it? I had a Monogram/Promodeler Ju87 and really liked it, Is it anything like that?
I’ve never tried a Hasegawa kit, how are they? Is the P-40 a good kit? If its not good can anyone suggest a company that makes a nice P-40 kit? Please no revell on this one.
I’m going to a hobby store tomorrow to pick them up so any replies before then would be great!
Can’t REALLY help with either, but, Hasegawa seems to have a very good track record, very nice recessed lines, roughly half the size of Tamiyas(from my limited Hasegawa experiences). I have the 52 in the stash, and it appears as though it will be great. If it’s anything like some of Revells newer (90’s-ish) releases (ie,410, 110) I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!!!

Thanks 5-high, I am actually going to get both, I live in WI and my sister lives in VA so she gave me the choice of getting something in the $30 price range, and my brother didnt know what to get me so he gave me the option as well.
I’m not sure if the store will have the P-40 but I know they have the Ju52 (which is 1/48). If I cant find the P-40 I’ll try to find another kit that interests me. I just have a thing for the P-40, sharks mouth or not.
The only reason I ask about this kits, is I’ve never bought a Hasegawa kit before, and I I’m not very fond of revell at this point in my modelling carreer. The Promodeller/Monogram Ju87 I liked a lot, everything fit really well ( almost a Tamiya kit IMO), I wasent sure if the Ju52 was a rebox of an old kit as I am not familiar with any companies histories and backgrounds.
The Hasegawa P-40 kits are arguably the best available in 1/48. Not shake the box kits, but not overly difficult. The Revell 1/48 Ju-52 is a rebox of the older Monogram Pro-modeler kit. Very nice kit but care is needed gluing the corrugated wings.
The P-40 is probably worth it, if you can get it. I’ve been using the cockpit as referance for scratchbuilding the interior of a classic airframes 1/24th P-40 and it has been true to my reference photos (I got to photograph the real deal at EAA Airventure) The exterior is darn good too, It’s a quality kit. Revell.monogram always takes more work, but are usually more affordable. If you want problem-free construction, Hasegawa is going to fit your interests better than revell. Yeah, the Revell P-40 is junk. Good for a decent-fitting “fun” kit but it works. good luck to you!
I got the Ju52, opened it on the way home, and let me say it is a very impressive kit, everything looks really nice, hardely any clean up will be needed and looks as if everything should fit well.
I was unable to find the P-40 and nothing else interested me at time so I’ll save the bday money for another time.
