I’m not to sure you messed up the pit, mine didn’t fit well at all and it also messed up the middle fuselage. A lot of work went into getting the pit in there and I’m still not happy. Nothing to do about it now I guess. Quickboost makes a set of guns for the “m” or “Night Lightning” with the big flash suppressors, now they should make a set for all earlier versions from the “L” on back…
As you said to Reef, most pics I have of P-38’s had the windows down to some level and the top open. That is how I choose to pose every P-38 I will ever build. Maybe next time I’ll alter the height of the two side windows so they won’t be the same.
Fjs, I put the cockpit too far up… on mine you can hardly see the instuments and the seatback is too high… I had to sand it down lol.I should have just sanded the bottom a lot more. Oh well, I plan on tackling another one of these sometime, I’ll know for then!
That’s my oldest son’s name as well. Actually it’s Frederick but with all the ‘Freds’ in the house at family gatherings, Rick is what he is called.
Those wheel wells ARE a large Pain in the fanny. The pit gave me grief as well but it wasn’t OOB. If I build it OOB, those wells would STILL be a pain in the fanny. You’re right if they aren’t right you’re in for a long build.
I painted the pit Interior Green. I think the FS# is 34151. All the pics I have seen, the color wasn’t one of the darker shades people talk about so I went with just plain old Testors Model Master Interior Green. I think when people talk of “cockpit green” they are talking of a darked shade of Interior Green or maybe Bronze Green? Be very careful of how the booms line up with the tail cross piece. Lots of work where they meet the wing and fuselage section.
I sanded the florr almost paper thin and it STILL didn’t ste 100%. I also had to sand down the back headrest because it made contact with rear canopy. The pit really looks great though but it isn’t that easy to get in there. I still bought another one for the next P-38J…sometimes I think I’ll never learn!
