Hasegawa Macchi

Hey guys I just got the machhi folgore c.202 kit from Hasegawa and whats the scoop on this moddle. Any room for improvents, stuff like that. Its not the kit with the “squiggly” camo, it is overall dark green with tanish blotches. Whats the best way to acheive this, the only way I can think of is with handpainting.
Thanks in advance

It’s been a while since I built Hasegawa’s Macchi 202 but as I recall it was a pretty straight forward build. Theres always room for improvement on just about any kit, so it depends on your desire for detail and accuracy and diligence of research. There are (or were) detail sets available for this kit. Check Squadron’s web site for True Details and Aires aftermarket sets. The paint scheme you describe would look best if airbrushed, but it does require some skill to accomplish.

yikes airbrushed you say? i guess i should mask it. p.s. if any of you guys have some pics of this model can you please post em?
thanks again

The Hasegawa Folgore is a very nice kit. The only “problem” that I had was a panel on the wingroot that is split by the seam. It was either on this kit or another I built that I added a thin sheet styrene panel over it & sanded it down.

This kit has a True details resin interior (good for the $$). I used a Jaguar set (can be hard to find) on another build, which included a plug for the wheel wells containing the plumbing that could be seen on the full-size AC. (this is an old pic of an old build-I had airbrush problems at the time. Please excuse the camo)

Pix,
Camo looks great ! Were the decals included in the kit or aftermarket?
fuzzy

Thanks, fuzzy. I had a worn teflon ring in my airbrush, resulting in the overspray above the engine intake. Those are the kit decals (printed by Cartograph). They were very thick, and I have read that some people didn’t like them at all. There were a couple of hard-to-remove air bubbles in the wing facia, but they finally settled down. Even the fuselage band is a decal.
I still think its one of Hasegawa’s best 1/48 kits.

i donno man that looks pretty darn good to me. thanks for the help guys
