Hasegawa Lancaster

I amstill awaiting dekivery of mine but I know somepeople have theirs and there has been the odd posting here. However has anyone now formed a considred opinion of this kit - built it and any observations for its improvement? Or is it a disappointment?? I was contemplating buying the (costly) York conversion for my Airfix kit - should I reverse the idea?

The only real disapointments in the Hasegawa Lanc are the lack of rivet detail and the lack of raised panel lines that are more appropriate to the overlapping panel construction the Lanc had.

If you’ve been up close to a Lanc, then you know there’s enough rivets to grate cheese on. The Hasegawa kit has very few rivets at all and all of its panel lines are engraved.

Beyond that, the Hasegawa kit is a beauty.

Thank you - yes - recessed panel lines seem a bit of an obsession these days - on some aircraft -e.g Beaufighter to name but one the panelling is crude! I suppose one can over come the problem like I have (but on a very much reduced scale here) on model ships - emulating the plating by taping round the area concerned and then respraying - of course as you will appreciate it does leave a thickness of paint suggesting a raised area. Thin coates on 1:72 model aircraft however! This is perhaps more “true” than simply raised panel lines which are just that - not a raised/overlapping “panel”.

Like you I have been with in touching distance of a Lancaster - but of course when viewed from a scale distance the rivets and panels etc. are not that prominent - save here they were regarly removed etc.
