I started this build 2 years ago for the then current Battle of Britain GB. To cut a long story short I got bored with the build, and popped it in the cupboard, where it remained until July this year.
Having joined the current Battle of Britain GB with the intention of building a Hurricane, I exhumed the 111 from it’s resting place, and took another lokk at it.
Although not one of my better builds, I figured it was worth finishing, particularly as I already had the very fetching AIMS decals for a KG54 machine in the stash.
Paints are a combination of Gunze, Tamiya & Vallejo acrylics, applied with my trusty Badger 100s.
Wow so thats what the new Hasegawa 111 looks like…!! Very very nice and well done. I really like the over all look including the panel tones/panel line effects…
I know you started this beaut awhile ago, but do you remember of any stumbling blocks/issues w/ this build?
Toomanyslurpees, the underside finish was achieved with a coat of Future over the RLM 65 followed by a coat of Tamiya NATO Black. This was allowed to dry for about 10 minutes before being attacked with a fine grade sanding stick.
Mike, there are no major pitfalls with this build, but I would advise checking the fit of the wings to the fuselage carefully, as well as the alignment of the engine nacelle components.
And you definitely want to invest in a set of Eduard masks. I put mine on two years ago, and they still did a great job, with no paint bleed, and no residue.
Not one of your better builds?? Holy cow that thing looks awesome and can only hope my 1/72 Heinkel comes even close to what you have produced. Thanks for the inspiration.
