This is Hasegawa’s 1/48 Bf-109F-2 from JG.54 “Grunherz”. A fun kit to build, though I admit I messed up a few things on it. I wouldn’t call it one of my best, as I finished the bulk of the kit a few years ago but pulled it out recently to finish it up. The antenna wire going down into the fuselage should be one station back, and I didn’t realize I had put it into the wrong place until after it was done- doh! [D)] Ah, well… guess I will have to build another one and do a better job next time! Thanks for looking! All comments/constructive criticisms welcomed.
Looks great, you did an excellent job on the winter camo. It’s got a nice patchy/worn look to it like it should be. The rudder being moved it a nice improvement, makes your build different. I try to do something different with every one of mine as well to give it character. It surprising how moving a control surface, seat belts, and a little well place wear makes a big difference. About the only thing I see is usually (not aways) the gear doors were partly or completely removed to prevent snow/mud build up.
I’ll tell you what I have built at least 7 1/48 scale hasegawa 109’s and every time mess something up. It seems I have better luck with the 1/32 scale, every one of those I build come out great.
Exceptional work, buddy! [tup] One of the nicest winter camos I’ve ever seen, and I really like the contrast between it and the trop scheme. Those winter schemes are not easy to do. You nailed this one!
Marc, Jerry, dirtball, arki, Phoenix, Greg, Nam, Mike, and Art-
Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate the feedback.
Marc- I agree with you, the “F” is the looker of the bunch. I’m really looking forward to doing another one.
Phoenix- That’s another one of the things I messed up! I had already painted and mounted the L/G before realizing I should have filled the door attachment holes in the gear legs. I figured I would rather have the doors on than the gaping holes where they mount.
You gentlemen are too kind! Lucky for me, the special camera setting I have (the one that hides the mistakes) was working today! [:-^]
Frank, that’s one of the nicer winter camo’s I’ve seen. Excellent job all around. I love the Grunherz birds and yours is a fine representation. It must feel good to finish off an older build and get it from the “has-been” back the “show-worthy” state.
Wow great job. Nothing like a good looking 109! But jeeeez …that antenna!
LOL If you wouldn’t have said anything I don’t think anyone would have notice. I luv 109 I have alot of references and I had to look up what you where talking about. I looks awesome!
Thank you so much! Glad you like her. She really gave me some fits, though. I am glad to finally have it in the case alongside the Emil trop. And, I am looking forward to taking it my local annual show as the theme this year is “lucky numbers” and “13” has gotta be lucky!
This is one of two from my display case that I am reworking a little. The other is a 1/48 Tamiya FW-190D-9 that I was never quite happy with. I re-masked the canopy parts today, added the brake-lines and electrical wiring to the gear struts, and added a little weathering. Soon, she’ll be ready as well! [tup]
