Can’t believe its been nearly 4 weeks snce i posted an update. My modelling slowed to a crawl for a couple of weeks but its picking up again now. And i did have a couple of issues with the build. So here what i have got done.
I got the main construction finsihed off. I did have one issue, with the forward part of the canopy. The fuselage was slightly wider than the clear piece. So i used some white glue as normal and clamped the fuselage and left for 24 hours. But as soon as i released the clamps it popped back open. So i repeated but this time useing super glue. I know thats normally a no no on clear parts, but i have found its ok as long as its not a colpletly sealed clear piece. As the rear of the canopy was off it was not a problem, and this time it held.
I made a tarp to fill the hole in the front gun position and some wiring for the upper panel.
Then after masking, some primer and paint. I started on the top with the RLM 70 and 71.
Then after masking with white tac, some RLM 79.
I’ll leave it to dry for another day then mask and paint the black underside.
Bruce, i am not sure. This was the plane that inspired the paint job on my Ar 234, but i did see a similar scheme on a real 234 that was in service in May of 45, so that would not be for winter camo. There are a couple of pics of this 188 after it was captured and there is some light snow on the ground, and i did wounder if it should not be white rather than blue. But every profile of these aircraft and the companies that make AM decals al say blue. So i really don’t know.
Finally got this one wrapped up. Not to much in the way of progress pics as i was just trying to finish it off. But after decals i did some weathering with flory washes and added all the final bits.
fter my lesson on the Me 410 where the underside weathering on a black surface vanished under the clear coat, i did this one heavy with the idea that the clear coat would tone it down. And it did work. This was taken before the final coat and of course i forgot to take one after.
And then it was onto the base. The compase swing is a resin one from Kora. Needs a bit of work but a nice addition. Figures i simply the best of what i have left.

Thanks Clint. Kora makes a good selection of them in 72nd for different German aircraft, i also have the Fw 190 one. Not sure if they have them in other scales.
