Hasegawa 1/72 Spitfire Mk. VIII Completed Pics

This actually came packaged as Hasegawa’s Spitfire Mk. IX, but the sprues contained the parts for the Mk. VIII and Mk. IX. As I already have a Mk. IX in the stash in this scale, I decide to make it a Mk. VIII.

The decals are from an Aeromaster set of Spitfires in US markings. I really like the look of these MTO Spitfires.

The kit is really nice. The cockpit is reasonably but simply detailed. The fit was very nice, and the surface detailing was excellent.

Overall I’m very happy with the end result. Only problem I had was the canopy… I never could get it masked right, so I just gave up and hand painted it.

Nice Spit there jwb. I like the MTO camo colors to. I have a couple of P-40 in the stash that I plan on doing in that scheme. I am going to do the Amtech P-40 K and a AMT P-40 F. I have the Osprey MTO theater P-40 book and there are some pretty cool schemes and unit markings from that theater.

Looks good Jon. The hand painted canopy came out well.

Regards, Rick

Very nice, Jon! Handpainting a canopy in any scale is not easy. Yours looks super! and with all these Spits popping up on the forum, I absolutely can’t wait any longer for that GB to start! [:D]

nice work, I like the paint chipping on the leading wing edge. The red spinner with the white and blue marking give it a very patriotic look. Canopy look excellent, study hand you got there. don’t drink much coffee do you[:)]

Very nice Spitfire.

rjkplasticmod, wyoroy- Thanks for the kind words!

soulcrusher- Thanks so much. I have those AMT kits too, though it will be a while before I get to them. Be sure and post pics!

ruddratt- Thanks! I agree on the GB- I’m really looking forward to that.

phoenix7187- Thanks! I kinda “cheated” on the canopy. I painted it fairly sloppily, then used a toothpick to scrape away the paint that didn’t belong. [;)]

Nice wone Jon. ya know… you are going to get a reputation of having a Spitfire obsession. Take it from someone that can easily recognize that affliction (Fw 190D-9s [:-^])

Beautiful work on the Spitfire. The finish is very well done.

Good looking bird Jon [tup] - you don’t often see a Spit with US markings, and I really like the MTO camo scheme. The canopy looks fine.

Cheers [#toast],

Jon,

Superb! Simply Superb! One of the best paint/weathering jobs I’ve seen in a long time. You’ve got that one spot-on.[tup]

wing_nut, yardbird78, TANGO 1- Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I truly appreciate it.

flippersdad- This one’s for you Eric. Just so all know, Eric sent this to me as a surprise Christmas present during our Secret Santa GB. It was great fun to build and I truly appreciate your genorosity, encouragement and friendship!

Very nice Spitfire, Jon! Yes, it does look good in those colors and markings.

Nicely done Jon! [bow][bow] As a 1/72 scale modeller I can appreciate a well done 1/72 scale build and you’ve done a great job with this one. As for cheating on the hand painted canopy someone once told me that a good carpenter never makes mistakes but an even better one knows how to fix his mistakes. sometimes its knowing how to cheat that makes the difference. [;)][:-,]

Great job Jon, the best 1/72 Spit I’ve ever seen. Very subtle weathering. Magic stuff.

Cheers

Andy

Mark Joyce- Thanks so much!
