Dear members,
I was wondering if you could help me determine the quality of these model builds. I was considering the purchase of both and hoped you could provide any insight into their worth…
Thanks,
Doug

Like all the other hase phantoms, the showtime is a very nice kit. All I added was seats.
Haven’t built the Falcon

The F-4 kit is very good in my opinion, I’ve got some F-16 kits to build, the only complint I’ve heard about them is that the intakes are not accuate for certain versions of the F-16. That aside, it’s a fairly good kit, plenty of detail and quality.
Hope this helps,
Darren.
i have the f4 j phantom showtime 100 and its got great detail. i got mine form great models. i plan on starting mine soon at least by this weekend. if you do get the f-4 go to the aircraft resource center web site and enter the f-4 group build it starts today and runs for 6 months. so it gives you plenty of time to build both models if you get them both. i just hope mine turns out like tango-1 showtime did, only thing is i am going to hate to put on all that senticl data on the f4. hth[:D][:D]
I have the F-16A but its the Thunderbirds F-16A and a Nato F-16A+ plus a F-16C and a F-4E and a F-4B/N
Dragon that is a beutiful F-4 build ! Great work. I just purchased the Hasegawa Recon F-4 from Hobby Lobby, hope my Phantom turns out as nice as yours[:D]
I haven’t built my F-16 either, but it does look like a great kit. Good detail and overall very accurate.
I’ve built both kits,
the Hasegawa F-16 is the best kit out there are some areas lacking but aftermarket updates will cover the failures, the first of the top is the ACES II ejection seat, then which version of Falcon are you doing?, then the intakes are the falacies the kit only provides the Blocks 15 to 25,32,42,52 (or the Pratt Whittney engined planes) the blocks 30,40,50,60 are Big Mouth intakes and are available only in aftermarket update kits, but all in all it’s the best kit
the Hasegawa F-4’s is also the best out there, the only lacking I’ve noticed is the Martin-Baker MK-7 Ejection seats and they too are available in aftermarket, so go out and get them both and have fun
didn’t the MB seats come in different versions Early model and late model types early models probably had the cannon shell egress while the late model had the rocket seat.
on the M-B Seats the kits are to clunky looking if you know what I mean they just don’t look right to plastic, as for the versions it depends on what version F-4B or F-4E that’s totally up to the builder and they need to do some research to which seat will work the best for their build
My goal is to purchase an f-16 a or b to model an indonesian viper in its three tone wrap around scheme of two tone gray and blue using aztec decals…I figured the F-16a or a plus by hasegawa would do the trick…I was bidding for one on ebay today but I lost because I was unwilling to pay more than it can be purchased for elsewhere…I wonder sometimes about ebay bidders…the need to win perhaps even if it’s not a good deal? Anyway…if anyone knows where I can track down a kit to fit this build please let me know.
Doug
Right now Great Models has the following 1/48 Hasegawa Viper kits:
F-16A+ Kit of a Block 15 F-16A
F-16C"Thunderbirds" I’m not familiar with this kit but the Thunderbirds fly early model F-16Cs (Block 30)
F-16CJ This is a late model Block 50/52. You can backdate this kit into almost any C model with relative ease.
F-16A Tiger Meet 2003 A model, Block 15? Markings for Belgian Air Force and an extended tail for breaking parachute
Pricing for these is in the $25 ballpark. I would suggest the F-16A NATO kit due to the extended tail base for the brake 'chute.

Thanks for that reference
Before the rocket seat mod the F-4 series ( all ) used the MB Mk 6 ejection seat ( six safety pins ). After the rocket mod they used the Mk 7 seat ( seven safety pins ).
The number of safety pins was just a coincdence and was not related to the Mk number. On the Mk 7 seat the extra safety pin was the rocket pack safety pin. The Mk 7 also had the drogue gun initiator relocated. The same pin was used but it was shortned by using a spacer on the pin. On the F-4E/G the bulkhead mounted initiator was repositioned. A mod about ten years later again repositioned the drogue gun initiator, modified and relocated the rocket pack initiator, and the canopy interlock block seat interdictor firing mechanism was re designed. What does all of this mean to the modeler? Nothing as only two initiators are visible. All am seats are of the MB Mk 7 seats.
