So my first 109 is done and i think it turned out ok for the 1st go around. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks. i tried using misterkit colors for RLM 70 black green and RLM 65 light blue. Not sure if they are a close match or not as i’m not an expert. What do you luftwaffe experts think? I did have a little trouble getting the PE head armour in the canopy and got some fogging goin on. and also had some painting woes when i tried to post shade. The kit decals silvered alittle bit, and the markings are a two step affair, the white outline first followed by the black bars,kinda made it a long and tedious job. I also managed to get them alittle crooked on the model.
Looks good overall. A couple of items to watch out for next time: 1) Splinter camo on wings should be hard edges not soft. Also that pattern is quite specific depending on which timeframe your building so check references and copy the pattern exactly. 2) Seems a bit shiny but that might just be the flash. 3) Landing gear seems a little too splayed apart, check your references. 4) Some silvering on the decals, especially the red piping on the wings. Keep up the good work.
All in all, a very solid build! Colors look good, and applied well. Only thing I would change would be the colors of the tires, they look a bit too gray on my monitor. For WWII German A/C, some dark brown mixed with black replicates the rubber color found on their tires. Excellent build, I really like it!
Testors makes a specific Rubber color paint. I don’t remember the number off hand but I am pretty it’s in the regular Testors 1/4oz short bottle (white cap). It’s more of a brownish grey.
Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah the small decals silvered pretty bad, i’m starting to realize hasegawas older decals are notorious for that, even with a good gloss coat under them. Rick- the RLM 02 looks that way i think cause of the blue background, its MM acrylic and i think its a little to light or cream colored. And yea i think the camo came out to soft on the edges, i’m still learning that technique.
I have noticed this with a few Hasegawa kits as well. I just got one of their 1/48 Phantom F-4K/M RAF FGR.2 kits. It was supposed to be a bagged kit on Bay so I got a set of Almark AM Decals for it and then when it arrived, they had sent me a brand new kit still sealed in the box. But the decals STILL looked a bit dodgy so I am glad I got the Almarks anyways.
I have had some success with Micro-Scale Decal Set and Sol, then a nice overcoat of their Decal Film and a layer of Future Pledge on top.
