Firstly, no, you are not seeing things, its not a typo, I have not been replace by an alien. After several years of building up a small(ish) stash of 1/32nd German aircraft, I am finally building one. This is a bit of a jump up from 1/72nd. I decided to start by building a kit with a simple paint scheme so I can concentrate on the construction side and working out what, if anything, I should do differently than I would do in the smaller scale.
The kit is the Hasegawa Bf 109F-4/Trop. It comes with markings for 4 aircraft flown by Hans Joachim Marseille in 1942. I am building the last option, the aircraft he flew in early Sept 42, just before he switched to the G-2 which killed him. The kit also comes with the bonus figure. I will be adding some PE from Eduard and RB Productions, Aires resin wheels and a couple of HGW sets.
First thing I have been working on, I am sure you will not be surprised to hear, is the pit. After removing the moulded on detail, the PE and plastic parts were attached.
Next up, a coat of Alclad black primer followed by Xtracolour RLM 66.
This was followed with a dry brush mixing the enamels with white oil.
As I have used oils, I will leave it until tomorrow night before painting in some details, adding the pre coloured PE and doing the washes. In the mean time I have made a start on the wings.
All comments and suggestions are extremely welcome.
The first thing I thought when I read the title was “are you feeling ok?”. LOL. Those big sizes intimidate me a bit still. Looking forward to watching this one come together.
Ye, I am feeling ok at the moment. But I have some oxygen and aspirin on hand just in case.
A few years ago I decided I wanted to have a select collection of larger scale aircraft. It was a choice between 32nd and 48th. As everything I would want was in 32nd and I wasn’t planning on to many, I went for that. Of course, small select stash is now sitting at 10 and there’s a few more I would like to get, but you know how it goes. The main issue is where to put the damn things.
And thanks for watching, I am keen to see how this comes together as well.

Cheesy, i’ll be sure to try and high light any issues I come across. But so far all seems good, the only issue being with some PE that I had to move as it was in the way of the pit floor when I dry fitted. [:$]
Joe, I am sure I read some where that there is a law that says anyone who builds German aircraft has to do at least one of Marseilles and Hartmann’s aircraft before their time is up. [:D]
Its that time of the week again. After the oils had dried, i added some shadow with Flory black wash. I then added all the pre coloured PE, seatbelts and painted in anything that wasn’t RLM 66. I must say i am really pleased with the end look, slighly worn but not to much so.
I found the HGW belts to be awkward to put together but they look really nice. My only dissapointment was that they are only coloured on one side. I understand newer sets are coloured on both sides, but with these ones i still have to be careful how i position them.
I also found my first problem with the kit. This is how the cowling MG’s are supposed to fit.

Just not right at all. So i have sanded down the raised bits which hold them in place, but going topaint them before fitting.
With the pit done, i got it fitted and the fuselage together.
The wings are just about done. But i am going to paint the wheel wells and radiator flaps before attaching. I’ll also leave off the leading edge flaps to paint those areas.
So next up, i will get to the bit i like lest, sanding. But the seams look quite nice so that should not be to much work.
PJ, don’t get your hopes up to much. You can take my life but you’ll never take my 1/72nd [;)]
I have been informed on the 109 GB that the guns should indeed be as hase intended them, so i will have to look into that, it just did not make sense. Sodon’t take that bit for granted just yet.
