Hasegawa 1:24th scale MB Jeep

Although all my models to date have been 1/24th or 1/25th scale auto’s, in a moment of weakness and also that I’m a great fan on the MAS*H TV series, it is still being aired over here, and I usually catch a couple of episodes each night, I’ve bought myself a Hasegawa 1/24th Willys Jeep, and at the same time ordered the Eduard P/E sheet and Tamiya TS-5 Olive drab, but to me it looks a little dark to the photo’s of the Jeep I have seen, Tamiya also do Olive drab in TS-28, which one would be correct ?? also I have seen photo’s of the Jeep in U.S Navy colour scheme, in a matt light blue, what paint would be a good match for this colour scheme ?

Hope someone that know’s more than I do when it comes to Military subjects can point me in the right direction …

US Navy jeeps weren’t light blue, they were gray. The OD that jeeps were painted in was a very dark OD.

Thanks for the reply, the photo’s I have seen of the U.S Navy Jeeps looked a little on the blue side, but the grey does make sense, what brand of paint and shade would be suitable for the grey ??

“Matt slate grey. This was the same colour as the aircraft were painted and the official name for this was Non-Specular Blue-Grey. The closest standard colour to this available in the US today is FS-36176.”

General purpose Navy vehicles were painted gloss gray with black lettering, as Air Force vehicles were a gloss dark blue with gold lettering (when the AF became a seperate entity) and Army a gloss olive green with white lettering. I think the USMC vehicles were just like Army vehicles but had gold lettering if I remember correctly. I am talking about their vehicles such as sedans, pickup trucks, utility vehicles and the like. Even the ambulances were painted this way. Field use units are a whole different story. In the early 80s, the Navy and Marines went to all white vehicles (they were leased from contractors) and now they take them in what ever color they arrive in from the supplier.

I am pretty sure that this is the case but I have been known to be completely wrong in the past.[whstl]

All true for later vehicles. For a Willys MB WWII era jeep, Non-Specular Blue-Grey is the correct color, as I gave above
