my inst for the bb musashi have call outs for the deck color as gunze sangyo h-37 called wood brn the color charts show it as a med/med drk brn with a hint of gray and in the paragragh next to it it says the decks were un-painted what gives
Not unpainted plastic color.
The decks of the Yamato and Musashi were made of Hinoki Cypress wood and early in the war they were left unpainted/unstained.
Later in the war the decks were stained with a mixture of fuel oil and stack soot. That is their appearance as lost.

does that mean that the color i mentioned is correct or is it more of the lighter deck tan type color

What time period are you intending to model?
the model is the 450th scale has which is as built also i have some kure gray (tamiya #75) it calls for dk gray #2 which lists out as kure gray but… according to what i read it was repainted kure gray on it’s last refit
As built, Gunze H37 for the Musashi deck is WAAAAYYYYYYY to dark. I see nothing in the Gunze line which replicates the light wood color
Tamiya makes a light deck tan, Humbrol Oak is good as is White Ensign Teak

Looking at the link Ed Grune posted it confirmed my suspicions… a colorized B&W photo… I really hate how folks try to pass that off as real for color reference[bnghead] If you look at historical photos of WW2, color film was mainly used by the Germans (Agfa I believe), and US (Kodak), with British color photos most likely being Kodak film. It usually has a grainier appearance and more color shift due to the properties of the film used than what is colorized and passed off on the web.
