Here is my Hasagawa 1/48 Spit mk 9 “E” I am doing in the SOuth African Air Force 1950’s sceeme.
It was one of a batch of Spits donated to SA from the UK gov as a “thamk you” for WW2 efforts.
Very nice detail as usual, but the rivet counters will tell you the fuselarge on this kit is wrong. Doesn’t really matter to me I got it for a bargain and it’s a fun build.
It is oput the box, I just added belts from masking tape.
The fit of the parts was not bad, just a little putty needed where the carb airscop meets the bottom of the fuse.
Just a little bit of the pre-shading comming through on the bottom grey, but I like it. I will do some pastel weathering and a bit of a wash to bring detail out.
the "rivet counters really take the fun out of model building, don’t they? if i can make 'em look as good or better than the pictures on the box, then i’m happy with the build. i think your spit looks great so far, can’t wait to see it done south african colors!
Nice work Theuns. I love the Hasegawa MK IX. Nice detail and fit. I don’t care about the fuselage issues either. Looks like a Spitifire to me Keep the pics coming.
Thanx guys. I am still not sure about the upper surface camo. The war time sceeme of dark green and ocean grey will let some of the shading through. The SAAF roundals ware the same as RAF eccept the centre dot was orrange.
The other sceeme is an all over semi gloss extra dark sea grey with white and blue roundals and a centre orange “springbuck”. This will not allow any shading , but dang it makes the plane look “menecing”
I just drybrushed the inst pannel with a stiff bristle brush and white piant. The detail on the interior of this kit is really that good so that simple things make it look good
