Has anyone tried any of these 1/72 Zimmerent products?

I mean the ATAC, the PART, or the edwaurd. I am looking right now for the tiger but am also looking ahead to the elephant, panther, and others. Have any of you guys tried these product? How did they work, fit, look?
thanks Bill

I have several of the Part PE zimmerit sets for the Panther G (damaged and undamaged patterns) and the Atak set for the Elefant and the King Tiger. I have not tried to build the kits yet though.

Not the zimmerit, Bill, but I do have the general Part PE set for the Ferdinand (fenders, other fiddly bits) , and I am very happy with it so far. It bends easily and then keeps its shape after bent. The replacement fenders look really nice on the kit, and fit well – they are the main reason I bought the set, there’s no way I’m using all that PE!

(I should say though that there’s the normal PE issue with this set – an attempt to provide too much. Some of the pieces are just much too thin to scale for the vehicle, and it’s just better to use the kit part.)

Anyway, this is not a zimmerit review per se, just my own limited experience with Part’s PE. I like it!

For last years Mad Tiger Day I bought the Hasegawa Tiger I late and it came with a set of Eduard PE zim in the kit. I was actually quite pleased with it. The fit was good, but there were a lot of small parts for the mantlet. Ofcourse the actual Hasegawa kit was horrible, the best part about it was the Eduard zim.

I am working on a project with Part PE zim. It goes on well and fits excellent. However, I am wondering how much detail will be lost with painting.

I’ve tried all the major brands of 1/72 scale PE (regular PE, not zimmerit though). Part PE is the best although they include a whole lot of madness in the set. ExtraTech has smaller sets that just include the basics like headlight guards, grills, etc. Eduard is just plain too expensive for the newest sets ($20-25).

As far as losing detail on PE zimmerit, just make sure you spray on light coats of paint with an airbrush. I would imagine that if you brush painted or used spray cans, that the paint might build up too thickly and obscure the zimmerit detail.
