I’ve read a few older articles and reviews, but nothing too recent. I bought some Mission Models HGG. Nice paint, but a bit too dark and WAY too metallic.
Before I get into the endless mixing game, I thought I’d check in to see if anyone has found the magic formula.

MRP280, FS36170 paint, clearcoated with MRP278 HAVE GLASS Matt Varnish looks like its the closest according to some experimentation done by a guy on the ARC forums.
As a recent MRP convert, I have to warn you, it will ruin you for other paint. Sprue Brothers has both in stock if you want to give them a shot.
I saw that comparison and actually have the paints in my cart on SB. They are out of stock on MRP gray primer though. I’m guessing any form of acrylic primer will melt to goo under the MRP lacquer, so I may need to wait a bit to try.
Tamiya Grey Surface Primer works just fine under MRP. Its what I use. I recently found out on my Su-25 project that MRP paint bonds really well with bare plastic too…just not sure how it would look. I had some bare plastic spots near where I had sprayed Tamiya primer followed by MRP paint. Some of the overspray got onto areas I want to remain bare so they can be cemented. I found that even the MRP overspray that had gotten directly on the bare plastic took just as much scrubbing with an alcohol-dampened q-tip as areas that had primer.
Are you rattle canning the FSP or decanting/airbrushing?

I use MEK to thin mine…gives it extra bite on the plastic. Not sure what the exact ratio is because I use party straws cut in half as pippettes for the primer, and a glass syringe for the MEK. My ratio with those two things is 1 straw of primer (dip in primer in 4 ounce mason jar and put finger over end to pick up) to 1cc of MEK from syringe. I like to mix my primer and MEK in a bathroom-sized paper dixie cup…the wax in the cup is pretty much impervious to the MEK and primer.
