What are the best titles to purchase for pictures of WW2 American hanger decks? Titles for foriegn carriers would also be appreciated.Allen
Hi,
I think this would be a good title:
“U.S. Aircraft Carriers: An Illustrated Design History”
by Norman Friedman
But I’m not sure. I should get this book within a few days, so I could tell you later.

Allen,
There’s really not much out there. Freidman’s book is the definitive work on the design histories, but it’s more text driven than photos, and there’s few if any photos of hangar decks.
Insofar as foreign carriers are concerned, even more difficult.
Drop me an email when you get a chance, and I will send you some photos of Essex Class hangar deck photos from my collection.

I’m afraid Jeff is right.
I just received the book, and although it has many photographs and diagrams, few of them show the hangars. And those that do are all pretty dark. You could try to contact he US Navy, perhaps they will have some photo’s for you.
You could also search here: http://www.navybooks.com/default.asp
or http://www.usni.org/ both sites have many titles about Naval forces, so there should be a couple of books out there about the WWII carriers.
Hope this helps,
Remko
