It will be a couple weeks before I post any new pics, I have run out of models to photograph. I am learning how to paint figures right now and am slow at getting these things painted.
Also at the same time I am working on two airplanes at once, my work table looks like the aftermath of an 8th Air Force bombing raid on a German aircraft factory, airplane parts everywhere!
Now why would you want to return to building normal models like everyone else?if you have a creative gift why would you want to be like everyone else? The modelling world does not need any more models on bases,I dont mean that as critism for anyone who aspires to do just that but you have shown you have the talent to do better.Go for it.Good luck.Cheers! John.
Thank you very much John!
I have had a chance to look at the quality of your work and I am greatly impressed by it, in the future I will try to reach the high level of workmanship you have demonstrated, but I am very much a newbie as far as the dioramas are concerned and have much to learn yet so thanks for the encouraging words and for looking at my work.
In a few weeks my figures and a couple new airplanes should be ready for pictures and I will post the pics then.
I have some ideas about using different camera angles that I would like to try, and if they work it should result in pictures that are interesting. I have only had my camera a few months now and am still getting used to it, every time I take new photos I gain knowledge on what works well in taking the kind of pictures I am pleased with. So far I am not satisfied with what I have done and think I can do better.
You ma have answered this before, so I apologize in advance if I sound like I’m from the Department of Redundancy Department, but what do you use for a photo editor? Your B& W work is excellent and that last color shot looks like a faded WWII era color snapshot.
What I use for photo editing is Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, I bought mine at a local Wal-Mart for under $60.00. So far I have only used a few of the tools it has to offer, there is much to learn about it yet.
Thanks for the comment about my attempts to age my pictures.
I have the kits of the AA now but will build them later, I need to build some aircraft to put on that airfield!
Right now I am painting 15 figures at once and building a Do 335 and very late war Fw 190 D that is pictured in a book about the Russian armed forces winning the war against the Germans. This book is not printed in english but in Russian, the Fw 190 D picture shows a late model D-12 or D-13 with the wide cord Ta 152 style tail and paddle blade prop also used on the Ta 152.
When these new planes and figures are finished I will post some pics, the Fw 190 D I am trying to model will be of interest to late model Focke-Wulf fans.
My airfield is an idea I had to make a photography base so I could photograph my airplane models in a more realistic looking setting. I designed this photobase to photograph 1/72 and 1/48 models but 1/32 scale works also but not as well.
The photobase is made out of three sections of scrap plywood I got from a lumber yard for just a few dollars. My pictures give the impression that the photobase is very large, in fact it is only 3 ft by 4ft, I try to use larger sized models nearest the camera and much smaller models in the background to create the effect of the photobase being larger than it really is.
Better pics are a few weeks away, I will post a few when I build something new to photograph.
I have some ideas about taking pictures of my models I want try out, and I look forward to seeing if they work.
Is your Fw 190 from the Academy kit?
I bought a 1/72 scale Academy Fw 190 recently that included a Kubelwagon, and if anybody was doing a German WWII airfield dio this kit is a ‘‘must have’’.
My airplanes never have the antenna wire on them, when I clean my models the antenna always gets broken! Since I post pics now I guess I better start adding antenna wires from now on.
Yeah, it’s the exact same kit you are talking about. i got it for the decals. i love the red tailband against the grays.
I never noticed that! i guess your handywork just makes that unnoticeable!
One thing about attenna wires: on my latest project, a Bf 109G-6(Academy 1/72 again), i used my own hair for the attenna wires. it worked perfectly for the scale.
Thanks Karl!
Hanger 1.0 is still intact, it might appear in the background in some of the new pictures I plan to take.
Hanger 3.0 is being planned now, it will have some damage from an air raid. I will build it sometime next year, right now I have many kits I need to finish.
jay_liang_CA,
That camouflage and red markings on your Fw 190 does look really good, I never tire of seeing those kind of markings and camo on the German fighters. The German late war ground vehicles also had really cool looking camo.
My attempt at aircraft antenna wires will be stretched clear sprue, I want my antenna wire just barely visable.
how about invisible sewing thread(fishing line)? I don’t know what the thinnest type available is, but i think that’ll save the trouble from stretching sprues[;)](at least for me: i never seem to get how to stretch sprues[banghead])
I have had mixed results stretching sprue, I will have to try your suggestion about the lightweight fishing line and invisable thread.
Thanks for the idea.
