Hang 'em high - (ceiling hangers)

Fellow modellers,

I’ve mentioned this “rig” in a few posts in the past when people have asked how others display their models. I thought I would show a pic of the setup I have. Nothing earth-shattering, but I like the way it gives me the freedom to orient my ceiling hangers in a way that I can control.

By the way - you’ll see the finished 1/72 P-40 Kittyhawk that I showed some in-process shots of awhile ago. There’s even one whirly winged thing and a few of my sons’ kits in there. You may notice the rather unique camo scheme on the 1/48 P-40. I’m not sure of the environment for which this camo was intended. I’ll have to ask my son.

This is most of my collection since returning to modelling about 4 or 5 years ago.

Hope you enjoy !

Chris

looks GREAT chris!![tup] very impressive display of your talent. later.

Nice idea Chris. I always find it interesting when guys post “room shots” and I see many kits that I have toiled over in the past. There’s a fair amount of commonality in the subjects we all have chosen wothout even discussing some of our previous builds.
Thanks for thepost!

Ray

Very nice collection & display.

Regards, Rick

I like the x-wing thrown into the mix. Great display!

Boss,

Nice builds … that looks to be a large Spit on the shelf!! Can I ask how you mount the “hangers”? They look very effective

Let’s see…got it, got it, want it, got it,[(-D]

Very nice display Bossman!
I’ve got seven hung up in my basement lair as well. They are all my twin and four engined Monogram/Revell bombers, etc

2 questions; What pound test do you prefer ( I use 8-12lb), and is that a 1/24 Airfix spitfire (its’ very nice)

Thanks for sharing,

Chris,
That’s pretty cool.
But what do you do about the dust?

Nice looking collection on the ramp and in the air.[:D]

NICE[8D][8D][8D][8D]

Thanks for the compliments guys. you are most gracious.

Piflo - The X-wing was a father/son effort. My son is into Star Wars. There is a small walker and a pod racer on the shelf below that you can’t see. If you’re wondering what the yellow thing is below the X-Wing - it’s a paper mache bird. I guess that would make it a goldfinch (?)

Cossack - Yes, that is the 1/24 Airfix Spit.
How do I mount the hangars ? There’s a 1 x 2 that is held to the ceiling with mollybolts. Then there are 10 disks, each with three holes in them. A screw goes through one hole in the center of the disk to attach it to the 1 x 2. The fishing line is tied to one end of the model, run through the two other holes, and then tied to the other end of the model. This gives me a way to fix all three axes of rotation. Turn the disk, the plane rotates in the horizontal plane. Pull the string one way and it alters the pitch. Adjust the point at which the knot is located around the planes fuselage and you can tip a wing up or down.

Nicodemus - Just curious - which one was the " Want It " ?
I don’t know what strength the line is, I’ll have to check it out when I get home. I’m thinking I’d like to get some finer stuff. Whatever it is - it’s way overkill for a 1/72 fighter. I have a 1/48 scale B-24 that is in my work area in the basement. I’m not sure I’m gonna ceiling mount that one. I bet your display of ceiling mounted behemoths is pretty impressive. I’d just be afraid of having one fall on me - specially the B-29 - that thing’s gigantic !

The Fairey Swordfish on the shelf can’t be mounted on the rack just because of all the rigging. I have to handle that thing very carfully or I start poppin stretched sprue.

Lee - I just get up on a stool and brush the dust off with a paint brush.

Thanks again guys,
Chris
