Halftrack question

Ken

Was just doing a Google search on halftrack models and came across these threads… did not realize that these treads were that old… ALCON = All Concerned… with all due respect you obviously never served in the military… as I stated with few exceptions IH HT’s were sent overseas as lend lease vehicles … I never stated that “all” IH were used as lend lease vehicles… in fact there was an entire Army Regiment made up of IH Employees that signed up for the duration …As a halftrack owner I was just trying to pass on some interesting facts … Not interested in starting a new thread.

Welcome aboard M16A2. As you spend time here you will see there are many old threads that get resurrected here from time to time. As a side note, don’t be too presumptuous about the military veteran status of members here. There are quite a few vets. As for myself I served nearly 24 years in the US Army in both Active and Guard side and ALCON was one term I do not ever recall seeing or hearing. I suppose it all depends on what branch, type of unit, and era one serves in.

Same here. I didn’t respond earlier because my intention wasn’t to argue/flame. The three posts digging up three old threads just seemed odd to me.

My mistake.

Camokid, would be a lie if I said I was not just a bit PO over your post … I was not being presumptuous (Check the mirror!), I was just returning fire and based on the replies must have hit a “Chord” … My original intention was to just provide some info as I am a halftrack owner and have significant experience / info regards these great old pieces of history … did not expect to get slammed / accused of spamming and then corrected regards my IH comments (which were factual if you had bother to read them).

Will stand down from this forum … not what I thought it was and quite frankly to much chest thumping for my tastes …(Chest Thump Alert: I have 31+ years of Army service, four combat tours, am combat decorated, and am currently recovering from a leg wound (Afghanistan) in the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Ft Benning, GA).

If any modeler is interested in haltrack information, please contact me via my personal e-mail at mkoloc44@yahoo.com and I will be more than happy to provide photos etc.

I’m sorry that you’ve gotten so upset, as I said earlier my intention wasn’t to argue or flame. In my defense, being an administrator on several forums, spammers normally go for old threads that haven’t been commented on in years and dig them up, that’s just what they do.

Also, if you check the post before mine, you will see that I didn’t say you were being presumptuous, the poster before me did, I merely quoted him, perhaps I could have left that part out but I haven’t figured out the quote function since the forum change over.

I know you fairly well as I too post on the ‘G’ and have seen your track, chatted with you there and look forward to more pictures of your vehicle as you progress, it’s a shame that you have taken my response so personally. Funny thing though…

I find it interesting that less than two years ago you, by your own admission, assumed there was a skate rail in an International Harvester M5.

M16A2, more than a few flame wars have started from similar old threads here dragged up and folks getting peeved up about their perception that the last poster has no military service experience whatsoever and the next one taking offense and others coming in taking sides. A simple, “ALCON means this_____ and it comes from______” would have sufficed. Rather than, “you have obviously never served”. I personally hate seeing vets going at one another for no good reason here other than misunderstandings. It is fun to take part in the good humored interservice rivalries threads that pop up here. I am sorry if I came across as chest thumping, that was not my intent. Give the forum some time, get to know some of the folks here, there is a huge amount of knowledge and talent here, and enjoy the hobby. And I do hope you recover quickly from your wound.
