Gurney F1 decals

I’m kit bashing a 1:12 Gurney F1 from an old Tamiya Honda F1 build. I’ve never overcoated decals before. Is it necessary? If recommended, what product do I use? The base paint is Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue in a rattle can. Should I use a Tamiya gloss clear? What about Pledge in an Autolock PQ-30S all in one airbrush? If Pledge, what thinner should I use to clean the airbrush.

In my experience, overcoating decals is a must. It helps the decal “disappear” into the base paint and seals the decal so it wont delaminate or yellow. Tamiya gloss clear will work fine. For me, Rustoleum 3X gloss clear is a winner for ease of use and great results…and no cleaning of an airbrush! Your milage may vary.

Thanks mrb865. I used Testors Glosscoat (now a Rustoleum paint, not sure if its the same as 3X). Seems to have worked well. I decided against the Tamiya gloss clear, as I have heard it is “hotter” than the Testors. Thanks again for the advise.
