I am looking for some information. I have gone to Squadron Mail Order, Phoenix Models, and Model Expo websites looking for Gunze-Sanyo paints. I am actually looking for Mr. Surfacer 1000. I found Mr. Surfacer in a spray can but not in a bottle. I was wondering a couple of things 1) Where can I order some 2) Is this a primer for enamels or acrylics, or can be used for both?
if so, i have found one at a website: hobbyfan.com
i am not sure if there is a specific paint that you need to use after applying this primer. but i think it is for both. many of the primers are usually lacquer based. which means it is stronger than acrlyics of enamels. but i am not sure if this surfacer is lacquer.
Please, don’t support “hobbyfan” or buy from them as they are a known RECASTER and KIT PIRATES.
If you want authentic Japanese Kit visit the 2 stores above.
Thanks guys for your input. I went to HLJ.com and they have all these different kinds of Mr. Surfacer (500, 1000, and 1200). Can someone tell me what is the difference between the three? I have never used this type of primer or any paint from Gunze before.
isn’t HLJ.com and rainbowten.co.Jp both located in japan?
not that there is anything wrong with purcasing directly from japan. but it’s just that, i would rather purchase my supplies from the US which is where i live. It takes less days to ship and probably more easier to pay. and the shipping will most likely be less too.
but i never purchased from hobbyfan yet. i was thinking about it. but if they sell phony stuff, then i won’t be interested. but i doubt if they make recast primers…
The primers are not recast, of course. [;)]
For me it is a case of principle as I have a few good friends that are involved in the japanese garage kit scene and produce their own kits…
Look at e-bay, I reckon that about 90% of Resin kits on there are recasts or pirated copies.
Yes, Hobbyfan is one of the biggest recasters that are situated in the states & canada, a quick look through their site shows plenty of OOP Kits(some already for years) and “Event Only” kits that were limited in numbers and only licenced to be sold at one event.
Another big one is Animebox based in Hong Kong.
AFAIK, R10 and HLJ are the only online shops from which you can be sure to get hold of original japanese garage kits.
Recasters are killing the commercial Garage Kit scene slowly with many companies now only selling via one or two shops and some even went under or left the garage kit market to specialise on other subjects (Kaiyodo, Fewture being two).
The few Companies that are left are stuggling to get new licenses for Kits due to the recasts.
According to me they and their supporters should be lined up and shot en-masse.
Steve carries Gunze-Sanyo products…just look on the left of the main page. You will find a brands heading select the brand from the drop down menu and…then look for what you need when the page/s come up.
He’s here in the US located in Nevada…great store and good prices!
Thank you for the tip on getting Gunze paint in the states. MMF, I do not have a problem from ordering in Japan I just am not real good with dealing with the exchange rate.
