Guntrucks in Iraq

Hi guys

Just a bit bored , so decided to use my old monogram 2.5Ton truck

and made it into a gun truck

i added some steel plates , kindly donated by a beer can ( the beer was good)

and some logs kindly donated by my fence ( dont tell the wife)

my question is ,

how are these beasts of the desert armed ??

I got a modern US Army set from tamiya

but do these have a bigger gun

or just standard machine guns in these

I know some of you guys served out there , and my have come across these

Heres some pics of my progress , as I said i’m just doing this for a bit of fun

cheers Sean

Good idea, but I haven’t seen any 2 1/2 ton guntrucks there, most are 5-tons. Also, the old Revell M34 is a Vietnam-ers truck that was replced by the M35 series in the late '60’s. It is not used any longer.

As to the trucks, they are armed with mainly .50 cals and other MGs. Here is a link to pics of a few in Iraq.

OOPS

Well its there in spirit ,

but thanks for the info ,

Funny thing is ,which I’ve noticed theres not mugoing in the way of modern trucks and semi’s in modern Armour

I’d love to do a Semi and trailer for my challenger , out here there leylands

which they do in 1/25 but not in 35 scale

oh well

Anyway thanks for the info and the link

cheers sean

Yup, not a whole lot of modern trucks in 1/35. There are a few though, if you know where to look and are willing to pay a bit for them.

For Brit trucks, Accurate Armour does a bunch, but they are all in resin and very expensive. They do have models of the Leyland and the new M1070 HET as well.

There is the US 5-tons, M923A1 and M925, by Italeri. They also do an M977 cargo and M978 fueler HEMMT. AFV Club has a great M35A2 cargo truck and M49A2C fueler as well. Revell of Germany has a bunch of German cargo trucks too. Various East European model companies have Russian trucks as well. Many of them are also reboxed by Revell.

Good luck and happy softskin modeling.

Jim and Dave do some great looking Guntrucks. However, the ones Jim posted are all Vietnam Guntrucks, not ones currently in use in Iraq. Dave “Animal” Willet has done a couple current, Iraq, Guntrucks as well.

This version was never completed nor used by anyone. It was last seen sitting in Kuwait at the facility that was building it.

I don’t know what I did, but somehow I deleted my reply so I’ll try again.

The Seabees still have a few “duece and a half’s” lying around, but most have been retrograded back to Kuwait. We are slowly replacing this with the Oshkosh MTVR. Now the Army still uses the 5 ton but were replacing that with something I believe was called the Wolverine (looked a heck of a lot like that Alabama slamma). Now when I was there we didn’t haul troops in the back of anything because of the IED"S so all this truck would have had is cargo. In '03, before IED"s were such a big threat, this would have carried a 240B or a M-60(stop laughing, we still use it) if it were transporting troops or a Mk-19 if it were being used for it’s much more common role as a “pusher”. I doubt it would have carried a m2 although that’s probably what came with it, we usually put those on more mobile platforms. I don’t know if you plan to put troops in the back or not, but if you do then the four corners would be the sentries with the AR’s. (Saw’s most and full auto m-16’s for bees.) Hope that helps.

For added realism put about a hundred emtpty MRE wrappers and water bottles in the back.
