Gunmetal by MIG Pigments, for track wheel weatherin'?

I’m tryin’ to work out how I should weather the wear and tear on the rim surface of the track wheels, that are in contact with the track itself. Can anyone help me with some advice for this? Do you guys think a baremetal effect is in order? Also, has anyone used the Gunmetal pigment colour by MIG Productions? This could be the answer, i’m not sure! Thanks!

Bare metal would only be appropriate if the roadwheel does not have rubber on it. Most roadwheels have a rubber “tire” that should be weathered as rubber, not metal. Best thing I have found for bare metal effect on tracks (or anywhere else for that matter) is to rub some graphite or a #2 pencil onto them. I have never tried the MIG Pigments Powder, but I bet it is simply powdered graphite.

On the KV-1 the rims of the track wheels have no rubber! I’m hopin’ that the MIG stuff is simply graphite, graphite is better than pencil lead.

I wouldn’t waste my money on the MIG metallic pigments. Get a dark (soft lead) pencil, and use the shavings to weather it.

Easy, you didn’t mention anything about the KV-1 and I don’t follow what everyone is building here… Yes, a KV-1 does not have rubber on the roadwheels. Also, pencil lead is graphite. Graphite powder is ground up pencil lead. Same, same.

Thanks, i’ve jus’ used the shavings from a 9B pencil I had, I applied ‘em usin’ my fingers. The track wheels look the mutt’s nuts, now! I’ll start weatherin’ the dust an’ crap onto 'em, too! I’m sorry I had a dumb moment, there! lol
