"Gulf Mission" Desert Storm with the Lucky Devils F-16's

For years I’d been looking for AirForces Monthly’s June 1992 article on the 401st TFW(P) and 614th TFS in the Gulf War. Several weeks ago (due to a lucky hit on eBay) I was able to aquire a copy, and I am now proud to be able to add it to our website at: http://www.lucky-devils.net

In the article, AFM’s Salvador Mafe Huertas writes up the most detailed accounting that I have seen of our unit’s deployment, preperations for combat, first several days of missions, and the return of our POWs, Tico and Cujo, from Baghdad.

Awesome article. Thanks!

You’re welcome and thanks to all those who have stopped in at the website and sent comments - I’m going to forward them all to all of our ‘alumni’ group…

It really means a lot that so many people are still so interested in what we did all those years ago back in the Gulf. Thanks to all.

This is the Lucky Devils F-16C-30 87-0223, which flew 59 combat missions during the Gulf War. 223 is seen here taxiing to the active past one of the Qatar Emiri Air Forces Mirage F.1EDA’s just prior to a coordinated USAF / QEAF mission to Kuwait. Dick “Brutus” Schulte was 223’s assigned pilot and Richard Carrol and James Pons were her assigned crew chiefs.

Oh yeah, there’s lots of interest in what you guys did over there!

I’m currently building a 1/48 hasegawa to represent a Gulf War F-16C from the 388th TFW (Hill AFB). I’m gonna have it loaded with Mk-84s, like in this photo, except mine will be mounted “in-flight”.

I’m taking my sweet time, because I want it to be my best model ever when I finish it.

Just finished browsing around your site, thanks for sharing! A lot of good info there, and some excellent photos to boot! Thank you for your service, and for providing a record of all those present. [tup]

First (and ALWAYS first) thank you for your service

Second, thank you for the web site and the pics and sharing all that great info!
