Guillotine

Anybody know where I can get plans of these decapitating machines. Fair bit of stuff on the web, but nothing detailed enough, especially blade release mechanism. Aurora used to produce a kit but it was considered in bad taste and was cancelled! Also plans for Roman type catapults etc: Thanks John.

I believe either Andrea or Verlinden do Roman catapults. The Aurora guillotine hasn’t been around for 40 years (when I built it). For those who don’t remember, it can as an operating model with a victim whose head was engineered to fall off when the blade came down. It was in the same scale as their movie monster series which has been in and out of production over the years.

What about the polar lights kit. That was my first model a few months ago. Im not sure if this is what you are looking for but its pretty cheap and should be available in most hobby shops.

I found this in a google search, maybe it could help.

I’ve seen the kit reissued by Polar Lights. I too built Aurora’s some 40 years ago.

What exactly are you looking for? What is commonly called a catapult is an Onager.
I have some plans for seige engines of various types including trebuchet.

I have the Aurora Guillotine kit i bought 5 years ago and never finished. Thanks for reminding me guys! I pulled it out of the box last night and prepped it for painting. i cant wait til I get home! Longs Drugs had it for around 12$. Happy Chopping!

Built the Aurora kit years ago. Bought the Polar Lights kit this week at my LHS. Can’t wait to build it again.

Given all the controversy this caused way back then, I’m surprised Polar Lights would bring it back. Perhaps even more surprised Aurora saved the molds to begin with!

[:-,] Now, now, guys!

Let’s not “lose our heads” over this![xx(]

Hi Derek/ Claymore, Re. Onager- I prefer something with wheels on, far as I know Onager had to be dis-assembled to move it. Something like ones in Gladiator movie, might be called Ballista. I’d like to build working model, but nothing too complex. Any ideas? Thanks, John.

Thanks Ajlafleche and others for replies and help.
Regards John.

hey, i built a trebuchet in tech! launches tennis balls 75 yards, used 16 square feet of lumbar

EUGH! the Gullotine is rather gruesome!

Hey, Do any of you guys have a scanned pic of plans for a trebuchet?!? A friend and I want to build our own ever since he had one of his students build one for a class project (My friend teaches history in collage)…

1337: what are the dimentions of your trebuchet? and how did you engineer the sling release mechanisim? [:D]

the dimentions are: 3 feet long, 2 1/2 feet wide, the vertical thing is 3 feet tall, 2 support beams in an “A” shape 3 feet tall, 2 1x1 inch supports on each side, arm is 4 feet long, holes cut all thru it, the hole for the bolt fitting thru is at 1.5 feet, another hole at the end, where some hard-core rope that can support 60 pounds goes, built with mostly butt and finger joints, attempted to use 1 dovetail. i will give you the complete dimentions, release mechinism, sling mechinism, all of it, i just need your email or just email me

Hi John,

I have a PLM guillotine for sale on my website, www.sparetimehobbies.com under /models/misc, for C$27.00.

Regards,

cool! i want one… wait i have one! it is rubber band AND wiehgt powered, shoots down so fast it can chop a pencil into halves. made from popsickle sticks

1337: That would be very cool! You’ll find my E-mail at the bottom of this post. [:D]

After watching Mail Call on the History channel I built a trebuchet with my son out of his Legos. It stood about 8-10 inches tall and would toss some of the bricks about 5 feet. Pretty cool for somthing we did in about an hour with no plans to go by.
